It is a key moment. The Alpine isnt even on currant hot hatch power outputs,so i cant see the new Meganesport having more power than that. Everything is so new,i am not expecting it to be class leading right out the box. The 4WS could be a good indicator of a car thats aimed towards handling, rather than chasing power figures. It was retained in the 911 GT3 even with a big weight penalty. I hope it doesnt go the way Mini has with its focus on being more of a fashion accessory. And dare i say it..the Golf R. The new refreshed 7.5 Golf R according to reviews, has lost some of its sparkle in pursuit of fast, comfortable cruising. You could have been forgiven for saying that the no compromise hot hatch was on its way out...until the RS Focus and Civic Type R showed up.
Surely all of you must realise by now that Renaultsport have never been about our and out power, it's always a balance of performance and handling, which as history has shown makes for a greater driving experience and also a more accomplished machine even against 'faster' rivals. I think the Alpine will be a good weapon. I'm hoping they've done a good job on the Megane too. They'll never please everyone as people are far too critical for their own good these days. However it's fair to say that if manufacturers are charging such high prices for these cars, because lets be honest they are no longer 'affordable' as previous hot hatches were, then they ought to be 99% there in terms of delivering the ultimate driving solution. I think there's still a market for extreme hatches opposed to these softened down family man versions, as there are buyers who still favour performance over convenience, but from a sales point of view it's sometimes prudent to go with a more overarching approach to creating a hatch which is what a lot of them are doing, with the exception of Honda I'd say, as I'd class the focus RS as still a but toned down. It's bloody overrated anyways. Megane trophy is a better car entirely in my opinion. We shall see what renault unveil anyways. I'm looking forward to it! I love the golf gti clubsport but I enquired the other day about one and vw want £600 a month for one, with a future value of £8k. They're just a poor deal if you don't buy it outright. Hopefully renault can come up with a more competitive pricing plan to lure in new customers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Renault has always been competitive on hot hatch power outputs and has only been losing out recently. If this new one is going to be as heavy as the current GT @ 1463 kg kerb, and nothing so far suggests it won't be, then it's going to need a decent amount of poke to have some cred.
Now that's what I'm talking about. Looks so sick in that yellow and these are the kind of teasers we were on about previously! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Some pics, poor quality and not sure they show much new really but shows it all together: http://www.carscoops.com/2017/09/new-renault-megane-rs-first-photos-of.html Might have to watch out with that exhaust, looks big enough for a squirrel to nest in.
We'll have to see, but it's a bigger heavier car with pretty much the same bhp. I like the looks and I even like the dual clutch gearbox, but I can't see how it will perform that much better...

Why is he trying to sound so much like Chris Harris in that video? Is that the new approach? Instead of every motoring hack trying to be like Clarkson, they're going to try and be like Harris instead? Doesn't appear to be any huge surprises so far. They're making some bold claims for it so it will be interesting to see if it turns out that way.
Sounds like a plan...just need somewhere to take my money now lol. Still a year away though. Torture. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks a bit better than some of the earlier teases. Just the wait now until it becomes available to hear how it drives. I know that the video above talks about the sacrifice of power in the pursuit of a better driving experience, but for me the engine also plays a big part in that, and I hope it has an exciting power delivery.
I find this trend of making turbocharged cars as unlaggy as possible a bit weird. Why not celebrate the fact that they're turbocharged with that big midrange push in the back like old Subarus etc.
No chance of that. It will be like every other modern turbocharged engine - super smooth and virtually lag free.
maybe they will go multiple turbo, all our cars bar the i10 are multiple turbo, one of them has 3. seems to do the job well I like the look of the new megane and a nice colour, cant wait for 5 years when i can put one on the trailer for a track car haha
Can someone explain to me the purpose of the hydraulic bump stops on the suspension? I thought it's usually for hardcore off roaders to prevent suspension damage after bottoming out. What's the purpose here that it couldn't do without it?
One benefit is that it means you can run shorter dampers, which helps with packaging (especially at the front, where pedestrian protection is becoming more important).
It was always going to be my next car, and the pictures just back that up for me, can't wait to have a nose around one and a test drive when I can
2nd of the above vids isn't bad, first time i've seen the available 9 colours in the background to. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
I hope they've stepped the interior on from the GT, can't say I was amazingly impressed with it. The material on the screen surround was a finger print magnet.
Couldn't give less of a shit about his opinion on anything to be honest, would help a bit if he had a car, that reminds me, must change my avatar to a mclaren, everybody will think I have one......lol
