Hi, Looks ok ish. Bit hard really when you mix everyday use with games, basically you need a games machine. The games will drive the power/performance you need. Look into the type of games you want to play and what they need to run.
Best thing to do is to compare it to the best gaming computers you can buy at the moment, that'll tell you where the spec is good and where it needs improving. In real terms you would want your machine to be a lot better than the recommended minimum spec required by the game because in a few months time they will need a better spec. Word of advise though, you do get what you pay for. As much as I would also like a decent spec gaming PC, I know that it would cost at least a grand :-(
Don't forget, you'll want to budget for a decent force-feedback wheel, pedals and shifter, and a subscription to iRacing What else would you want a computer for?!
Thanks for the advice folks. If I'm playing games I'll do that on my Xbox, but fancy a bit of DCS A10 flightsim. It's from 2011 so ought to be okay I think. Meh, need more money!
You'd have to check the requirements as I though Flightsim games were quite heavily dependant on graphics/Ram so it might not be enough. I just built myself a new Gaming PC but it was a bit more than that, I think it was £750 all in but should be future proof for a good 2-3 Years. I've got a build list somewhere if you decide to up it.
Thanks mate, but this is max money for me at the moment. I have to spend my.money on things like curtains and plates otherwise my GF will go bananas! Apparently Newspaper curtains are a no go...

Whats your max budget? How confident would you be building your own rig? You would be far better off cherry picking your own components and building the machine yourself... I would happily spec up a machine to your budget.
Thanks mate! I'd massively appreciate that. Even if it just gives me a benchmark to judge the others against. I've done a fair bit of tinkering in the past with PC's so don't see why I couldn't build one from scratch. Fitted new PSU's, CUP coolers, Fans, RAM, disk drives etc. It's all pretty much plug and play anyway isn't it? I don't need a monitor or keyboard etc. Would I need Win 7 64bit if I wanted tons of RAM?
Simple answer is yes. Anything over 3.5gb needs a 64bit OS to utilise it and I wouldnt think about anything less than 8gb nowadays, I currently run 16gb. Since the age of 12 I have only built PC's, never bought because 1. you can quite often get parts cheaper sourcing them yourself from different suppliers and 2. you can compromise on the things you dont mind compromising on to try and keep under budget.
Are you set on it being new? I cycle out dev pcs at work around every 6 months. Just about too recycle a couple and there's a Dell i7, 64bit, 4Gb ddr3 with nvidia gtx graphics and a 1Tb HDD, windows 7. +21 inch wide screen.. There are others too. This one could take more ram to ramp it up more. I can get the exact spec/pices tomorrow but they are good Pcs tbh.. You'll get a new pc for 300 but if it's for gaming id choose used over new every time and do a full wipe.. Depreciation on a new pc is harsh too If not, just go with something 64bit
Check ebuyer.com or dabs.com they are good sites and frequently do deals within most price constraints! Or look on John Lewis website always do deals and they are great
Whats died on your pc? Could always swap the component thats shat itself? Motherboard / cpu etc? If everything else works fine - would be cheaper than buying all new!
Bought my gaming PC from CHILLBLAST..a fabulous company with the best customer service you could ever want. They have won many awards. You spec the computer with a whole list of dropdown options. They will professionally overclock the PC to year in ,year out ,stable rates for very little. If you price up the bits,you will do very well to buy it , and make it yourself ,for the money you pay. My overclocked I5 based gaming machine runs like the clappers,and with a solid state hard drive..will boot to windows in seconds.. Maybe a bit overkill for you,but again,you can spec it how you like...i did loads of research on them and the bits i specced, I couldnt ask for more performance for the money..
ever thought of overclockers.co.uk you can create your very own pc for whatever purpose you want it my brother got on from there for his gaming graphic design for a lower price than what you pay for in the high street and after four years its still as strong as ever but what andrewjeffs say's about chillblast is true, very good place plus my brother says that if you want it for gaming then your better off creating your own pc to get the best.
