Hi all, I’m new to the forum, been a member on Cliosport.net for many years. Not had a Renaultsport since my ph1 172 around 10 years ago. Anyway I’m looking at buying a RS250 ideally with Recaro’s, and cup pack. I’ve been to see a car in Chester on Saturday. Majority of the car was lovely, apart from loads of stone chips on the front bumper and it had been touched up horrendously. Took it out for a test and it didn’t feel as quick as I was anticipating. I’ve had a few 170-190bhp cars and it didn’t feel much quicker. One other thing was it has an intermittent whine/noise on idle when I lifted the bonnet. Any ideas? Also is £9950 a fair price? For information: It has 68k miles, FSH to 67k, cambelt was changed in 2015 at 34k. It has Recaro’s, RS monitor, cup pack. Thanks Gareth
Hi, Welcome, nice the rs250 is a grippy car that is very capable straight out of the box. I've noticed a few times with mine that I don't get full engine power until all the temps are up to where they like to be. Sometimes it feels 30 or so HP down, until it's fully warmed up (this is not considering the cold start rev limit). Once I've done a couple of pulls it feels quicker. My car has been very well looked after and ticks over nicely when the bonnet is lifted. You can also look at the rpm needle during idle, it should be fairly static. It may have occasional kangarooing revs following a cold start but I haven't noticed any intermittent whine from the engine on idle.. P.S. I miss the roads around the north York moors.. Andy
Thanks for the reply Andy. I have to admit the car wasn’t warmed up when I accelerated. The car is still for sale. I offered them £9500 and wouldn’t take it. Still on the hunt.
Update...... 10 days later I emailed the garage advising my offer was still on the table. They accepted and I picked up the beauty yesterday. Just to remind people it’s a Red RS250. 68k miles with FSH and cambelt etc changed. Leather Recaro’s, visibility pack, RS monitor, pano/sunroof. Full fat with cup pack. Drove it home from Chester and managed 42 mpg with mixed driving which pleased me. Love the car and the handling is amazing!
