New 265 electrical issues.....please help.

  1. Hi guys, first post on here. Bought an Arctic White 265 last week and love it. Have had a Clio 182 and just sold a 200, but the Megane is in a different league.
Anyway, down in Cornwall and brought it for its first long trip. It seems to have two small issues which are driving me nuts.
The first is one which started today. The boot switch appears to have a mind of its own. Keeps unlocking itself, sometimes does it 10 times or so before stopping. Just now it re-opened itself everytime I shut the boot. I had to drive it with it insecure before it miraculously locked itself mid-journey. I'm assuming its just a faulty switch, but can it be fixed or is it a straight swap for a new one type job?
The second issue is with the climate control/air con. Works great for about 30 mins then I get a slight misting from the centre console vents. It doesnt smell at all, so assuming its ice crystals or similar. After this the power from the vents decreases even if turned up to full. The fans are still blowing the same behind the dashboard, just the air coming from the vents decreases a lot. I think there is a leak somewhere and the pipes are becoming blocked with ice. Once melted, its fine again for 30 mins then happens again!
Thanks for reading and any thoughts?
    Cheers, Nick.

  2. Private sale? If from a trader you need to be going back to them.

  3. Yeah, it was a trader and I intend on contacting them in the morning. Just wondered if it could potentially be an easy fix?

  4. You sure that the climate is working as it should? Has it is heating/cooling the car to a set temperature?

  5. Little update, Climate all working fine now. Was very low on refrigerants and the pressure was right down. It seems the system was working overtime trying to keep the temperature down thus causing the lines to freeze then blocking them.
All re-pressurised now and topped up and working perfectly it would seem.

Also, the boot has been behaving itself today. Took the switch of this morning and inspected it. No moisture at all, so no idea what that is about. Fingers crossed it keeps working.

  6. I dont know ifs it the condenser or another radiator type thing the cold gas goes through, but as the moistured air passes through the rad to the air vents freezes up turning basically into a block of ice. Never had it happen on my car, but got a free standing air con in my bed room which blocks up when it gets really hot. So either not enough gas and its struggling or the unit aint powerful enough. Your boot sounds like water in the switch, wouldnt of though it would cost much for a replacement.

  7. The boot switch is knackered and is on the way out, a very common problem due to an ages old badly designed cover. Get the trader to replace as for some reason the switch is also pretty pricey (£30ish if I remember correctly).

Its only teasing you with it working again - next time, or the time after, or who knows, after a wash or rain it'll go completely and then it'll be a real pain in the jacksie!

I've had to replace a couple boot switches on mine, last time it wouldn't open at all so had to access from inside the boot to release. Didn't bother buying a new one that time, removed and cleaned up switch then covered in Vaseline to prevent the water damage again

  9. Another update, aircon definitely fixed so I can forget that now, however.....
the boot has been misbehaving all day. Opening itself every time I pulled off, then every time my partner sat in the passenger chair etc etc.
It's not the switch as I swapped it out for one that works perfectly, the issue remained unchanged!
So, there's some electrical interference/gremlin somewhere. Any more ideas?? It's driving me nuts. Ta.

  10. Fingers crossed this is all resolved now. Took a trip to R&S Motors in Saltash. They couldn't find any faults via the diagnostic test, so swapped out the lock mechanism for a new one. Fingers crossed but I've not had any issues since.
Will take a few days to know for sure whether it's all sorted though

  11. Forgot to mention that there was no water or damp in there at all, so no idea what caused it.
