New 250 Cup Owner in Surrey

  1. Yeah on the battery front, I used to use Hayabusa batteries in the track cars (Clio and so on) and they did a fine job and lasted around a year at £30 a throw. Not sure now that I'll bother with boot relocation or a lighter battery! The CAE though is an itch I'm having to scratch  Join me!

  2. Audio, watch, car & CAE snobs. Funny bunch of people here!

  4. Evening Jon, could be some value in that I think...what mods would you need (I'm just after remap, turbo and injectors with fitting by them). Also, if the price was decent would you be able to move quickly? Honestly, if there being 2 of us gets a decent price then I'm even more keen.

  5. I have a pair of big Sennheisers which are great quality but I haven't used them for years as don't have hifi anymore as we've gone SONOS.

Oooh yes do it!!! Engine Dynamics do a similar thing, but won't be on my radar for a while.

The lights arrived today, haven't unwrapped them yet though but will do tomorrow!!

  6. I do like Sennheisers, the HD800 are the big brother to the IE800 I had (I missed a 0 off my previous message, bit of a difference in price and spec between the 2 models there!). I haven't yet made the jump to SONOS as personally, I'm more private in my listening..mainly using Tidal HiFi on the phone or laptop (via a Chord Mojo DAC ofcourse!). SONOS is bloody good isn't it? So convenient and easy.

There are a few companies out there offering various mods aren't there? Let's see what the pricing looks like tomorrow...it'd be cheaper still if there were 3 of us buying all these goodies

Great news on the lights!! How can you resist the urge to not unwrap them instantly?! Do let me know what you think of them and the fitting/fit etc, kind of feel responsible for this purchase.

  7. Mark good morning

I live in the north so purchase parts only I will get fitting. Which turbo were you going for stage 2? I have all the mods except for injectors and turbo. All the rest like sports cat, intercooler with turbo cooler and induction kit all on the car already.

Let me know I am off today working in the Isle of Man so cant reply till tonight just a hectic day

    Cheers Jon

  8. Thanks Jon and understood. I'll update you later on pricing once I've spoken to them...hopefully we can get something worked out.

  9. SONOS is just so easy to use and all the pros so outweigh the very slight loss in quality compared to separates. Our Playbar under the tv really does sound excellent and almost 5.1 but then obviously it also plays music - very loudly if you want and it doesn't distort. We've got a Play 5 in the kitchen which also sounds excellent and a couple of Play 1's upstairs which sound "ok" but fine for a bit of background music or you can link them all together and make the house into a club.

The intercooler arrived today and I haven't even unwrapped that yet either. Regards the fitting I see from your photos you removed the whole bumper, was this easy to do? Any tips please? Is it obvious how to remove? Plus you jacked the car up and took the wheels off, did you find that was necessary? Thanks!!!

  10. Afternoon Mark, chuffed the Wagner has arrived for you  I'm currently talking Jon into spending huge sums on turbos and injectors haha!

What you need is the fitting guide from Forge here:

    http://www.mtk-tuning.com/media/documentspdf/montage_echangeur_megane_3_rs_.pdf

It's very very easy to do, I did write an explanation but the guide does it better.

  11. Thanks Mark, that's perfect. Presumably you jacked the car up at the jacking points, but where did you then put the axle stands?

Was it nessessary to have to remove the wheels?

Thanks for all your help, just a bit nervous about removing the bumper, as have never done one before...

  12. To quote Charles and Eddie...would I lie to you? It's easy, the pain was those connectors for the intercooler. I jacked the car using a trolley jack towards the back of the jacking points and then put the axle stand just about at the front of the jacking points. I left one side though on the trolley jack with the axle stand just there incase.

You could do it without removing the wheels I guess but it's not a big task taking them off to clean those lovely calipers

  13. Thanks Mark!!

I was planning on cleaning the calipers when I fit all the new brake bits in a week or two, will have a look whether it's nessessary and if so will just whip them off.

Will let you know how it all goes.....

  14. Good luck, I think you could just leave the wheels on and put on opp lock when doing each side.

  15. Excellent Jon..send us a picture when they're on won't you? I'm still working out details with KT R on the stage 2

  16. Mark

When they arrive will post an update as when they go in I have got 4 PIAA 4000k H7s to go in as well. Got those from a thread on here just under a £100 for four delivered. Need to cut back mileage on the megane and use it for the weekends. Ordering a Caddy next week with luck certainly before the end of my VAT quarter in March.

Excited because that will be modified as well before I get it. I love cars and vans of course

  17. Evening Maverick

I fitted the Wagner today, was reasonably easy in hindsight but as I was doing everything for the first time I probably took more time than needed. Disconnecting the old cooler from the hoses was a bitch though - I ended up just putting a screwdriver through the 'funnels' from the old cooler so as to break them up and release them from the hoses (I had released the clips but they still wouldn't come loose). All went well fitting the Wagner except the male tongue on the passenger side that fitted into the rectangular plastic bracket was very tight and I had to file it down a tad.

I didn't need to remove the wheels in the end, I just put them on opposite lock like you suggested, thanks!

The Wagner guide was rubbish compared to the Forge guide so thanks again for that. I took the opportunity to remove the RS badge and also disconnect the headlight washers as they drive me mad covering the front of the car in screen-wash just because I want to give the windscreen a wash when I've got have lights on!!

Will fit the new headlights tomorrow!!!

I finished giving it a machine polish yesterday, next job will be to remove the black badge covers and spray the original badges black like the tailpipe.

    Any news on yours???

  18. I was just about to type an amusing message along the lines of 'well?' or 'hurry up!' but you've already done the biggest job

Glad it went smoothly, you'll have to give me your feedback on it now it's fitted and what the temp looks like on the Monitor. I really wanted to remove the washers all together but I didn't fancy the extra effort, maybe one for another time when I've done everything else.

I've got the car booked in with a leather specialist on Wednesday to sort the drivers bolster out (usual wear) and hopefully tomorrow KT R will come back to me on the stage 2 plan. The only hurdle is price, I want a better deal if I can get it. Failing that I'll order the CAE and/or new wheels and track rubber.

Good luck with the headlights today, weather looks decent enough.

  19. All done!

I wouldn't say the quality is quite as good as the originals but they're silly pretty good and look much better black!

The holes in the tabs didn't quite line up with the holes in the chassis closest to the windscreen, they're both about 3 or 4 mm too short. I've tried refitting them both a couple of times just to make sure everything is lined up and nothing is caught. Did you have any issues?? They're in ok and I've just enlarged the holes in the tabs a touch.

I'm going to have a chat with Engine Dynamics tomorrow regarding de-cats and any local friendly MOTers and if so will get one along with the exhaust and have a bespoke map done.

  20. Well done Viper! What was it about them (apart from the fit) that wasn't as good? I found in fitting they did line up perfectly, the bolt nearest the windscreen was a little tight but did fit without any tweaking...odd if yours were a little out.

A de-cat would be good if you can, get the crackle and pop map thrown on for good measure

  21. Ignore me, I'm probably just being picky, I'm happy with them but don't think the quality is OEM but for the money they're great, although one has got a bit of dust inside, hopefully it will vibrate down to the bottom.

I think it's unrelated but I'm not 100% sure the bumper has gone on perfect as there's a bit more of a panel gap between the bumper and wings than I think there was there before. I clipped them back in properly and the arch bolts are all tight.

When I get half an hour I may just loosen the bumper and refit it in case I've missed a tab somewhere. I don't think I have but will just be peace of mind. If by any chance it is out, perhaps this is pushing the lights out, although I think they're independent of each other......

The decats are fairly cheap and if I'm having it mapped then it would make sence, it's just going to be a pain at MOT time unless I can find a friendly one somewhere like I did when I had my track Clio....

By the way it looks great without the RS badge in the grill (yes I will take a photo at some point).

How did you get on with the front spoiler???

  22. Nothing wrong with being picky, I'm usually the fussy one so you must be REALLY fussy

On the bumper, has the side vents that you needed to trim for the Wagner gone on straight? I had to adjust passenger side as the bumper fitting had pushed the vent/plastic thing to the right.

I used to be a decat man but now I'm old and can't be arsed with MOT stress (even though I used to know someone who would MOT a car without even seeing it)!

The splitter was £450 shipped from Australia and to be honest, it's on the list but towards the bottom.

  23. Yes I’m fussy, I try not to be but sometimes things just bug me – like whether the bumper is sitting slightly off……!!!

The side vents were all trimmed fine I think, they were very flimsy though so can’t see them doing much once the car is at speed, or them possibly, if not in properly, affecting the re-fitment of the bumper itself. Thanks for flagging it though and I will make sure to look when I re-fit the bumper hopefully at the weekend.

Agreed! I’ve spoken with Engine Dynamics and apparently fitting a de-cat/sports-cat is a right balls-ache and a lot of labour. Apparently Scorpion also do a downpipe which is fitted rather than the de-cat and then you can swap the centre-pipe over for a straight (rather than the standard shape which is curved) sports-cat at MOT time. Money no-option this would be the best option, but also circa £1,000 all-in. Which I don’t have because I have a brake fetish at the moment……

£450 ouch! Put it towards the Oris along with the £800+………………

  24. I'm pretty bad, it's why I used to do all the work on my cars in the past..nobody would do the job I would do.

That's why the KTR system is £1015, it's a decat, sports cat and full system. What an odd exhaust setup the Megane has!

I'm still waiting for KTR to get back to me.

  25. Update! The car is booked in with KTR for the 25th of March for the stage 2 hybrid package

Between now and then I need to buy wheels and tyres ready for Brands at the end of April if all goes well!

  26. @Mark_RS - I am not far away from Surrey. Once done, would you mind meeting and me having a nose around (and be cheeky and ask for a passenger ride around the block)? Contemplating one too...

  27. Absolutely, no problem at all. I'll post up on here with progress and outcome and then just let me know when you're free on a weekend. Car should be back with me 1st of April.

  28. You're not doing things by half are you....!

What makes up the Stage 2 hybrid package?

I think fitting a decat would be too much of a pain at MOT time but I would regret not fitting a decat or sports cat to go with the intercooler if I'm having a bespoke map done, so I may just bite the bullet and go for a sports-cat and be done with it.....

  29. 200 cell sport cat a must got one fitted it helps tame the volume of the exhaust I went non resonated so pretty noisy get lots of pops and crackles sounds excellent. Adds £300 but I think worth it. I'm not that handy so would need to swap back and forth. Plus it can get a bit much on the motorway. But on a descent B road it bloody hilarious. I have a fuel economy issue[emoji1]

  30. I can be accused of many things, doing things by half has never been one of them

Stage 2 'package' is KTRs hybrid TD04 with cut back blades, 360deg thrust bearing etc, 630lb injectors, custom remap and a spare pair of brown pants.

As I already have the IC, exhaust and filter it's all that's left to do! Get the sports cat Mark, all the cool kids have them

  31. Blimey!! Should be a handful once that’s all fitted!

I had a google last night and if I go for the down-pipe & sports-cat I actually save a few squid on not needing the centre-pipe in the rest of the system, I think it works out at around a £100 saving, which partially offsets the cost of the down-pipe and sports-cat. I was also going to pay for a dyno-session just to see how things were on the Bluefin Stage 1 map, but if I am going for the sports-cat (along with the IC I have now fitted) then I will definitely need a new map therefore I don’t need the dyno session anymore and can put that money towards it as well….. Man-maths!!

So when are you getting all the upgrades?? What’s the likely power & torque increases??

  32. Should be fun or entertaining at least hey?

Man maths, apart from death it's the ONLY thing that's certain in this world. So many times it's helped me make very good decisions  Mark my words Viper, soon you'll be getting out the abacus to justify a hybrid turbo...

By the way, I read that Evo article on the KTR Megane. The car is running on KW V3s which was a bit surprising as normally V3s are astounding...maybe they just weren't setup at all well (that's the problem with serious suspension, you almost need a setting for every journey you make imo). Thanks for pointing out the article.

The car is booked in for the 25th of March, KTR are lending me an R26.R (jokes) for the week. Power wise it's the same kit as in Evo so 'should' be 350-375hp and ~400ft/lb but you never know with dyno figures.

  33. Man maths normally gets me into trouble!! But the sports-cat is just one of those fit n forget things that I will regret if I don’t have it done now! Plus like you have alluded to it will be there if/when I go down the uprated turbo route in the future.

I think the standard Cup suspension is spot-on, not sure why anyone would want any different on the road, at least.

375bhp/400ftlb!! Bloody hell Nora that will be fun through the front wheels!

  34. Your making me jealous I need to find some cash and get the turbo and injectors done. I am at 316 bhp and that is massively quicker than the standard 250 RS. I can spin the wheels in third and with a hybrid can probably ruin a set of tyres even faster.

  37. Ha yes, but truthfully it would always have been there in the back of my mind having seen the similar package on Engine Dynamic's site.

So is my work now done with regards you not buying that silly shifter..........?!

  38. Now being a father you know as well as I do that telling someone NOT to do something only makes them want to do it MORE  The shifter will be mine!! I just need to bust out the man maths calculator later.

So...being as life is short and you can only wear one watch at a time, why not sell one (or two) and be all manly like what I is?

    Jon Birkett likes this.
  39. No. 2 is still too young to understand anything. No. 1 however already understands right from wrong but chooses to do what he wants regardless and pays no attention to anything I tell him. Kind of like you and the shifter……

I like your thinking, I too would like to be all manly although for the moment I think enough is enough and am happy to keep my feminine side. Although you know what they say about men feeling the need to fit large extended gear sticks don’t you…!!

I’ve got to the bottom of all this sports-cat malarkey – whether one goes for a de-cat or sports-cat the standard cat is replaced with a de-cat AKA downpipe. This then connects to a cat-back system, which consists of a front-pipe then, working back, a centre-silencer (if resonated) or a straight-through centre-pipe, and then the rear silencer.

I had mistakenly understood that a sports-cat replaced the standard cat or the new de-cat/downpipe. Well it doesn’t - it replaces the front-pipe in the cat-back system.

So basically one fits the de-cat/down-pipe plus the cat-back system and has it mapped accordingly. And then at MOT time swaps the front-pipe over with a sports-cat.

This my friends is what I am doing.

I have spoken with Engine Dynamics and we are fitting a complete Scorpion system, Ktec do a similar full system at a similar price if the front-pipe is purchased in addition to replace the sports-cat (If one purchases the cat-back system plus the de-cat/downpipe separately they will have the front-pipe already but it’s not cost effective to do it this way – it works out cheaper to purchase the full turbo-back system with sports-cat and just purchase the front-pipe separately).

So Maverick I would just check whether you are in fact going to have your car mapped with the sports-cat fitted, or the replacement front-pipe. I think it is the former, but for the additional £150 (I think it was) you can have the front-pipe fitted in place of the sports-cat and take advantage of it, but then have the sports-cat handy to swap over for MOT time…….

    Trust/hope this all makes sense??
