Rear shims is next on my to do list as well, Im aiming for -1.5 on the rear to compliment -2.5 up front

  3. UPDATE:

The top mounts were ordered through AST UK nearly 4 weeks ago.

Parts were in stock so delivery should have taken just a few days.

It was booked for the work to be done on the 13th October.

Monday this week I got a text from my garage saying that despite assurances from AST UK the parts still hadn't been sent.

    This makes me fing furious!

It's put a major spanner in the works for me and my garage.

Be warned, AST UK are completely useless!

That quote a known fact tbf mate, Curtis is fucking useless.

Ill be buying from AST direct for that reason when I upgrade after the winter

  5. But doesn't it still go through Curtis seeing as he is the UK distributer, that's what I read anyway

When I spoke with them I made it quite clear I didn't want mine to go anywhere near him or have anything to do with him, They seemed to understand and were more than happy to send direct from Holland

Very wise move on your part.

    Really pissed off!!

  8. Thank god I orderd my AST top mounts directly from K-tech...! Delivered to me in Sweden 4 days after ordering!

  9. I spoke to Curtis this morning.

Explained I had two track days booked and that due to his broken promises I stand to lose a lot of money and that I was very upset.

He firstly blamed AST saying there was confusion over whether or not the parts were in stock.

He then blamed the situation with the refugees in Calais. He then promised to call me back.

As yet he hasn't called me back.

I did get a message from my garage saying they should receive the parts tomorrow.

I have to assume this won't be the case though.

I think he just hasn't bothered ordering the parts.

  10. @-Jamie- do you have a contact for AST direct?

Due to the fact my right and left are quite different, I'm going to get some to ensure it's balanced on both sides.

  11. And today they turned up at the garage (keeping fingers crossed they're the right ones!).

    The postage date??

    YESTERDAY FFS!

Have just wasted over two hours going to the garage to pick up the Renault as I was going to drop my other track car there for some work to ensure I'd definitely have something to use for a couple of track days next week. If that makes sense?

The garage will get the parts fitted today along with some shims at the back and hopefully make it even more rotational in the corners with it's more aggressive alignment.

Should pick it up tomorrow morning with new AD08R's fitted too.

Fingers crossed both of my cars will be fit for the track days so need to decide which one to take... A nice dilemma to be in

  12. What shims you using at the rear? I've only seen ones from Pure Motorsport

The guys looking to sort my car are going to look at camber and toe, to make the toe neutral (they seem to toe-in quite a bit across the rear) and the pure motorsport ones are, apparently, not ideal as they're square

  13. I'm not sure I'm afraid, I'm using a place called abbey motorsport in Oxted Surrey. They have parts on the shelf they can use, although I won't be getting it back tomorrow because the AST top mounts aren't easy to adjust - probably identical to the silverproject mounts.

They've looked after my GTR's for 10+ years and despite me using them as track cars I've never suffered any major faults. They mapped my current car to over 500 bhp and it hasn't blown up in 6 years. It's basically a standard car engine/gearbox wise yet has done 52 sec laps at Brands on RS-R's! Sometimes they've upset me but I trust them and they're nice blokes. Which is a lot more than I'd say about any other garage I've tried over many years.

If the guy in the focus is vastly quicker next week I'll probably get them to tune the Meggy, the whole point of me buying the car was to not to have to tune it and it's ticked that box for sure. But...

  14. Used to use Abbey some years ago, nice guys know their stuff, huge in jap car tuning, must swing by and reacquaint

  15. Quite amusing, as that's who will be sorting mine out

I was chatting to Mark about looking after Meganes - I wonder if there are sufficient people around that would make it viable for them to do a bit more research into them and get into mapping....

Could also organise a dyno day...

  16. A small world!
Not sure they have time for any other stuff but imagine they could tune a frenchie like any other.

Would be interested in a dyno day but not for my car, just to see what numbers the tuned cars get.

What would they do that hasn't already been done and tested though?

  18. Nothing, but they're close for us southerners so much more convenient.
Hoping to get time to pick it up today. Will drop off my other car then fingers crossed will get it back Wednesday so will have the choice of what to take for oulton and donnington.

    Wish I could take both!

  19. Well here is my two pence and as usual I'm honest and that's the best way as we all use company's and don't want our pants pulled down.

I contacted AST last week to have top mounts supplied and fitted.
I arrived at a unnamed unit one lad turned up at 9am and Curtis turned up around 9.30am
I waited around for 30mins before they invited me to drive in.
Prior to this I was thinking to pull the plug and leave as I had second thoughts about the company.
Any way I thought I'm here now and don't judge a book by its cover.
I was told 2hrs so I had meetings arranged for the afternoon back in Birmingham.
    1hr drive"
5hrs later the job was all done and front only setup at 2.25deg negative camber,
The rear plates he never had in stock.
Waiting area is no where you just stand in or outside the work shop.
    Cup of tea? NO.
    A seat no
While I was there a customer turned up and had a full blown argument regarding a shock Curtis has had for 2 months and he keeps fobbing him of saying it will get built.
Was I happy with the service yes.
    Took 5hrs not 2,
    No tea
    No seat
    Nothing,
Unit could do with a tidy up and maybe some ast signs etc!
But that's facts and I am yet to take the car to my local lad centre gravity.
    To go over there work.

  20. Have to wonder why didn't go to CG (Chris Franklin) in first instance? The guy's a legend

I mentioned him before on this forum but a couple of racer mates of mine swear by Ian Gardiner:
    http://www.igracing.co.uk/profile.html
He supplied AST 3 way damper sets for both of them and took care of servicing as well. He serviced and damper dyno'ed my GAZ 2 ways for me in the past. Unfortunately he can be incredibly busy with esoteric jobs on race cars but when I used him he was fantastic and will get my business again for sure.

  24. Thanks for the info on alternate AST UK places - for sure that's where i'll go in future.

    Mine are now fitted.

On max settings it got - 2 degrees. Had been told by AST uk it would get 2.5.

Taking it to Oulton tomorrow then Donnington on Sat. Leaving later today

    Happy days!!

Go and fly the flag for the rest of us.
I'm booked in with centre of gravity for the set up.
Ast said mine is 2.3deg negative camber.
I'll wait and see what Chris says and centre of gravity

  26. UPDATE!!

As mentioned I went to Oulton on Friday and Donnington on Saturday.

I started with ideal pressures of about 30 psi front and 32 psi rear hot (these are manufacturers pressures for circuit) expecting to have to increase as the edge of the front left disappeared.

The front left didn't disappear and the wear was good front and perfect back. The front could do with a bit more negative camber but it's so much better than it was and after 2 really heavy track days I'm so impressed with the wear.

Grip was excellent. And lasted and lasted.

    Especially through higher speed stuff.

I didn't even bother swapping the front left to back left and won't bother for at least another track day. I expect to get good life from these tyres.

I didn't get corner g's but am going to Brands on Monday so will collect some data and report back.

Hoping for at least 1.1 g sustained, certainly feels good for it!

Really happy with it, a friend commented that it works so well on track, he was amazed at how good it was and how well it coped with the use.

Here's a little vid of it from donington, I don't know the track at all so was even slower than usual but started to figure out where I was going and had some fun

How much camber did you end up with?

  28. IMG_3847.JPG

    -2 front, -1 back.

1st pic is front left after the whole day at oulton.

2nd pic is after oulton and donnington, running around 30 psi.

  29. My car runs 2.5 degrees negative camber but it is a race car. The turn in is awesome but I run R888Rs and you can rotate them.

Was good to meet you at Oulton - if I'm right in thinking that's who you are?

Unfortunately the footage from our play is on a laptop in Germany... Long story but doubt I'll ever get it :worried:

  33. Nice!

Yeah, Oulton was bloody fantastic. That part of England is just the best for tracks, something really special about oulton too. Loved it

Just to update the thread I took the car to Brands last Monday.

It was very wet and slippy most of the time and the oversteer on turn in was almost too much. It'd be quite easy to lose it if you don't have much experience going sideways.

Obviously a large part of this will be down to my driving but worth mentioning.

The first right hander at brands after the main straight drops down and is blind. There's a kind of 'wait and see' moment where you're a passenger waiting to see what the car does. It took me about 30 attempts before I managed it without nearly spinning!

Doing the same corner in a different car didn't feel anything like as delicate.

I do like it though

  34. That is Paddock Hill. One of the best corners in motor racing in my opinion, you get amazing pictures of cars squating at the bottom of the hill. Love it!! Sideways in the rain is fun not so much in a race though!

  35. Yup that's the one, embarrassingly I've never learnt any of the names of the corners despite going there for 10 years!

A lot people aren't massive fans but it's my local and I love it too

Great to spectate there as the seating on the entrance gives a view of nearly the whole Indy circuit.

It's just a shame that they're so strict :worried:

  36. Couple of vids from last track day where the meggy was bloody superb.

It was my first proper wet day and the turn in oversteer was delicious!

I'd swapped all the pads (second set in.... a month! But only 100£!) and the brakes felt extremely good, better than the 2.5k AP kit on my track car.

Here are a couple of examples of the turn in oversteer...

It may not be the quickest way but it sure does make me smile

Chasing this civic was fun and very equal - great bit of sport!

This is a friend of mine in his crazy R33 GTR. I've driven it and it's frankly insane, 740bhp and 9000 rpm! He had slick R888's so was sliding all over the place and wasn't really any quicker than me. If it had been dry he would've disappeared!

Really happy with the way the meg handles and wears its tyres.

The Yokohama AD08R's are bloody good in wet and dry.

Next date for the meg is 17 Dec, back to snetterton. If it's dry I think it's going to go quicker than last time thanks to the better alignment.

  37. Just dropped car of the centre gravity to Chris for some geometry. As Jamie stated we are hoping for 2.5 front 1.5 rear.
I had the top mounts fitted by ast but after the set up there. I found it to under steer more and feel twitchy.
So its of to the only place I would recommend attention to detail is second to none.
Ive had My track car R33GTR set up there for all manor of settings (WET/DRY Tight Open tracks)
ive had my M3 set up there after a BMW Specialist set it up with too much toe out and to aggressive neg camber. Over 150mph
it felt like I was about to take off.
A Trip to centre gravity they raised the rear 6mm and corner weighed and set up my car for top speed stability for the trip to Germany. The car drove like a brand new focus diesel it soaked up the bumps and it drive like a arrow from 150mph to 200mph you could use one hand it drove amazing. I kept that set up the same until I sold the car.
So I know the rs will come back a better car. Ive asked them to lower the front to as mine is at its highest setting (Front only) OEM ohlins can only be dropped by around 9mm I think.
Then its of to Silverstone Sunday with circuit days.
Don't think ill run my cups in this weather. Think its best to use the Super sports on the car.

Any way ive rattled on to much

Keep us posted on what settings you get and how they work.

  39. Well its the day after the crazy trackday?
A BMW hit the wall on the straight? not sure how that happened,
Also a megane RS on its roof.
There was a few meganes there yesterday and around Brooklands my car held the line a lot tighter and the tyres never folded as they do with oem setup.
So Really happy with the setup.
    Highly Recommended
