Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes, I've currently got a BMW 730d sport which is just a little too big and 'pimp' for me! I'm toying between the idea of getting either a phase1 225 meg or a civic type r. There's not a lot in it price wise and the Mrs is desperate for me to get something a little more sensible for the family, problem is I still want to have a bit of fun but then be able to get the buggy and baby seat in comfortably! I love the idea of a chain driven vtec for reliability and such like, but my last hatch was a 1.8t golf and quite fancy a little turbo again, plus I love the look of the Megane! It would be great if someone could give me some advice pros/cons as to what I would have to look forward to if I went down the Megane route! Any advice much appreciated!
Hi and welcome aboard mate. Ph1 225 great choice over the type r. Common problems to look for are; Window regs. Scuttle panel blockage. Hub bearings. Engine mount. Exhaust mounts. All relatively easy to fix when you know a decent mechanic and not too expensive to fix. Mpg is quite east on you too and even better with a remap, I was averaging 28mpg around town and 37+mpg on long drives, put your foot down and let the smile out and it's a different story. Hope that helps and any more question just feel free to ask. Jacob
Sorry not sure which phase an '05' plate falls into just assumed that was a phase1 ! Price wise looking to spend as close to 4.5k as possible! There seems to be a lot of Megs around at that age and price.
Could be either. You can tell with the bumper and rear lights as to which phase the car is. Put some links up to the cars your looking at, we may be able to help you more from there.
Thanks for the reply Jacob! I'm a keen fix it your self sort of guy so that all seems pretty reasonable! I'm based in Surrey, do you know of any highly regarded specialists in the area for repairs/re-maps etc.. ;-)
This is just one example but they all seem similar to me! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...ywords/Renaultsport/postcode/rh41by?logcode=p Cheers, Rob.
phase 1 trophy car. more rare than the standard phase 1. looks a nice car. as above though because it a renault check all the usual things as previously mentioned above. i would be checking for misfires aswell. go to the exhausts when the car is at idle and listen for a tell tale "cough". will be down to injectors, sparks or coil packs if you can hear it. all common faults on megane sports.
That's a ph1 trophy edition mate, I'd be a bit wary about that as its got no mention of belts being done at all. Fire him some question about service history and belts as that's over due of they haven't been done all ready. My fault, forgot the most common one like said injectors on the ph1 are the brown tag'd ones which Renault recalled iirc for being faulty, the blue tag'd ones are a lot better and ads from Renault can source you some new ones on here.
I've heard from my local mechanic that the service intervals are a bit optimistic from Renault and everything should be changed more frequently than they suggest. What is the general life span on Cambelt, aux belt and water pump? Thanks, Rob. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 2
As far as I know mate 6years or 62,000 miles but don't hold me to one. (Bmh/Gray+ others) will know the right times and changes mate.
Cool thanks for all your help! I'm really tempted by one now, the quick responses from you guys on here makes me feel like any issues I may have in the future can be resolved with the right answers! Much appreciated ! :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

Got any info, mileage, pics? Can PM me if you prefer! Thanks, Rob. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
No worries Rob. I had problems with my 1st Megane and wasn't until I found these guys on the old forum to help me out and save me a few £££ so if that means me going out my way to help someone stop spending money on un-necessary things. I will Don't buy the first one you see, go have a couple of test drives and get a feel of it. ^^^ just so you know Rob mark blacks car is one of the best around and I'm not just saying that's he's spent a lot a time and effort getting that to where it is today. Great example.
04 plate 48000 miles Belts done Quaife diff Forge recirc Forge actuator Hybrid turbo Big injectors Decat Blueflame exhaust Air filter kit 2piece discs Ds2500 Boost brackets Flocked centre console Scangauge moulded into dash Double din head unit R spoiler There will be more parts I've forgotten I'm after £5000
Very pretty car! I like a lot! Very tempting! A little out of the price range ( I have a very strict other half!). I will see what she says, but got a feeling she will something a little more standard! Where are you based mate? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 2
It's done 70,000 and mostly BMW history. I'm after £6500 but would be persuaded by £6000! Cheers, Rob. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
Cheers Daz, It's a cracking car but just a bit to pimp lifestyler for me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
It looks like a super heavyweight that car and so a Megane RS will be a completely different experience for you in the corners. The Megane R26 has an LSD on the front which improves handling even more. If you can stretch to a bit more cost I would strongly recommend it from personal experience.
Thanks for the advice! Mark I want yours bad, but unfortunately the Mrs has banned me from loud exhausts and modified cars! I'm gonna have to get something a little more standard and subtly change some bits so she doesn't notice! Thanks for the offer though mate! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
