So the tyres are starting to look a little smooth and I want them done prior to the MOT. Ive whittled them down to the following and wondered what you guys thought! Also why do alot of you R26 owners using 225 instead of 235? Vredstein ultrac vorti xl Hankook ventus V12 evo 2 k120 xl Toyo proxes T1 sport xl Falken ze-914 xl Pirelli pzero nero gt xl Prodgestone potenza re002 xl Avon zz5 If I had the money I'd have the PS2's but alas right now I don't! The 225 are usually a bit cheaper, you wouldn't notice the difference in the 2 sizes. Would the current tyres get you through an mot? might be worth saving a bit and going for the ps2 or pss if you can, although any of those above are fine for road use.
of them; my experience with proxy's is they are terrible.. the zz5 has been rated well by a mate that had a ST focus and bridgestone re002 is one of best rated tyres in the MSA list 1a range (ill be using them racing in treaded class) besides the old type yoko AD08 (new ad08r is different class) others i have had no real world experience only reviews i've read
225 would be fine as they are cheaper, have you thought of PS4 as they are cheaper than PS2's. I wouldn't personally put anything cheap for tyres, you might save money now but if you crash because your tyres are cheap then it will cost a lot more to replace your car
Ok so I may as well go 225 then! They won't pass the MOT which is due this month. I've been doing ods and sods the past month to get it through and tyres and exhaust hanger is the last thing to do!
Yes I won't ever do budget on this car but the car came with vredsteins (uktrac sessenta) and they weren't too bad to be honest! Never lost it yet and I have pushed it on the nice B roads! PS4's are in the budget!
For UK daily driving I definitely would go with Uniroyal RainSport 3 in 225 width. I'm running this on 4 different cars and my own is on the 3rd new set. Highly rated for a quick drive when it is raining outside and even an odd track day. Better safe than sorry. S.
Based on some of choices suggested in this thread, the Rainsport would be the absolute worst choice, unless you only ever go out in the rain. One trick, high wear rate pony. No comparison with the Hankook or PS4, if in budget.
I get around around 20-24k miles out of them (depends how many track days I put on). My wife gets 25-28k out of them. Both mileage includes a swap fronts/rear somewhere around 15k so by the time you need to change them, they will have the same wear all-around. Considering I use winter tires also, this equals with a set new set of tires per year. 225/40 R18 is @ 55£, so I pay 250£/year for tires, which I think is more then decent. I pay for brake pads more then this and tire is a pretty important part of the car. S.

I do really enjoy undocumented posts especially from flame-throwers and heavy bus users. I will leave some links here and let them speak for them self. I had 002 adrenalina and I have to say run away from them. In my experience they are awful. When they are cold there is no grip in wet, cold or hot. When you get some heat in them they are useable. I tried using them on track days, a little bit better but miles away from pss or ps2. Toyo is the same in my case.
All those reviews are just subjective percentages. They don't cross refer, plus the Rainsport gets a poor review for wear and dry grip. As stated by many posters. You do have to accept other people have a valid input on tyres.
Just buy the tyres you want/can afford mate, everyone has a different opinion on them. I found the rainsports to be fine on the road, i kept them on for wet track days,or used PS cup 2 if dry. They were still like new after 3k when i sold them with the wheels, can't go wrong at 50 ish per corner. I'd use them again, i'm running PSS on road at mo, or i will be once i get my car back, brilliant tyres.
Thanks after all that I managed to blag a discount off my mate for some PS4's which came into my price range!
I've got a set of PS4's on now, after the 3's were finished and I can't complain so far. Will see how they wear but I expect pretty well.
I paid £86 per corner. Maxxis are a massive name in most tyre circles, including off roaders/drift cars/bikes but somehow never made a big name for themselves with performance cars. The good thing is that means they are still cheap. That is in the correct size too!
