So basically my clio 200 is finished and I'm racing on Saturday at brands hatch gp in the msv team trophy!! Really excited you can follow all my racing at https://www.facebook.com/modicaracing My car:
Excellent. Good luck dru. I can see you still need to fit the external cut-off pull and extinguisher pull, tow straps, decals etc. I always seemed to get the same scrutes as they always asked to see the rear rain light aka fog lights on cars like my 944 and demonstrate that the external cut-off genuinely kills the engine and lights, I nearly always ended up telling em to pull it harder/further followed by a reminder from the scrut to pull out the extinguisher pin before going out on track. Car looks fantastic and that is some track to do your first race on, a legend.
Yes still a fair few little bits and bobs to do I'll make sure to double check everything then lol Really excited about brands gp, preying it's a dry one so I can really stretch it's legs Cheers for kind words
Definitely keep us updated dru and number 1 thing, don't worry about the race. I did I was sat in the paddock at Mallory in the freezing cold and rain (august as well), I really did brick it. Once on the grid though and lights out I passed 5 cars into the first corner and can say I had never felt so alive in my life as I did at the point. You will know if you are a racer or not by the time you get through the first corner, everyone goes only one of two ways. You either feel life you have just been electrocuted and taken 10 E's or being close to all the other cars is just to scary. I miss it like crazy and will likely race again next year, just need to work on the mrs a bit more, lol.
Race day and I found out that if my car was 10kg heavier it would have been in the class below (class d, nobody bothered to tell me but I should have checked) so basically I was at a disadvantage because I was right at the bottom of class c.... For the sake of leaving my passenger seat in haha However my first race went well. qualified fourteenth out of thirty four, and ninth in class out of 13. Spent qualifying trying to learn the car!! Then came the race, after the worst start off the line ever (not joking lol) I managed to claw my way up to fourteenth overall out of thirty four starters, and sixth in class out of thirteen. The only clio that beat me was an actual x85 cup racer!! Roll on donnington next month, could put my seat in and win class d with easy but I'm going to attempt to lose 200kg from my car and win class c, love a challenge lol Dru (Andrew modica)
Great result mate, well done. At least trying to strip 200kgs out should cost you much money, and kudos for going for class C.
Great start to your racing life. Its a nice feeling to see the chequered flag. I had 3 DNFs on the trot when I started but picked up signatures as they were 40 min races and you get the signature for doing more than 10 laps within 10% of the fastest in class. Reliability and getting through the race with some overtakes means you have a base from which to start moving forward, believe it or not but some pretty quick guys I have raced with struggle to get past cars. Really solid place from which to start.
