What pump does he recommend using just a new oem pump?

  2. Yeah he said get an oem pump from Renault Daz. Around £240 but will double check today as im going to local Renault dealers.

First thing Paul said when I showed him my damaged piston was thats its been running way to lean and how old was the car? I said 2005 and he said fuel pumps most definately bolloxed and to change it asap .

I'd be interested in the price - I'd rather get mine changed as a precaution.

couple of people have used the deatchwerks dw65c pump, its a direct fit.

  5. Never managed to get down to Renault today but I'm sure Paul said it was £240 for the complete unit Daz.

That deatchwerks pump looks a decent piece of kit Matt.

I take it you just remove the old pump from your sender unit and install this one?? Need to find out what kind of job it is to change them over.

  6. Managed to drop the block off today at the machine shop for a glaze and top reface. Left the pistons & rods with him too so that he can fit up the new rings for me.
He's also gonna polish up the crank and find out the correct bearing sizes that i need for the main caps & big ends.
Saves me a lot of hassle incase i order the wrong size.

Also managed to get my cylinder head back after being refaced for £30 quid.
Will give it a good airline out and drop it into the sonic bath for a final clean and give it a nice fresh coat of Alumablast paint.

Also noticed that my inlet/exhaust valves were badly pitted on the face and would probably struggle to get a good seal on the valve seat. So ordered up a full set of FAI valves and will start lapping them in at the weekend.

Certainly not looking forward to fitting the valve collets thats for sure. Anyone got any tips on the best way to fit them?

  7. Also popped down to my mates garage to press out the bottom arm bushes & bottom ball joint.

They took some pressing out but got there in the end.
The smaller bush was just too awkward to fit in the press so I burned out the rubber insert, used a hack saw to cut through the bush sleeving and it just tapped out.

Can drop these off at the powdercoaters along with all the other suspension parts/hubs std and fit new bushes in them. 744b027bd711a43fbca4d590b3a5cd46.jpg 54ea8fa84b5b549f0e553409b942d98f.jpg

Use a bit of grease on the inside of the collets, they will then stay put while you fit the other half and if you are careful you can move the first one around out of the way and the other one you can then place on the top

  9. Great Ian thanks for the tip buddy. Still gonna be a piss arse fiddly job no doubt.
I'll build my patience up for it haha.

  10. Next job on the list is to strip the turbo down and drop the core off at a local turbo clinic for refurb & balanced as there's quite a bit of play in the shaft.
I do think this is due to running a forge blank plate & no dump valve as i liked the chatter sound but I do think this has killed the turbo. Various debates on here in the past about it. I'm gonna fit the Pro-Perfekt recirculation valve once the turbo is done.
The core refurb is £100 so was happy with that.
Will blast all the other bits and give it a coat of high temp factory grey.

Don't think about it as a fiddly job you will only get frustrated, think of it as a delicate satisfying job, the first couple of valves i did took 1/2 an hour all the others took another 1/2 hour once you get a rhythm going

  15. Haha yeah I'll give it ago but will do it in my living room and put some cardboard down.
Hardly drink but might get a six pack in just in case

Did you use the standard C clamp removal tool?

    ohhh dear
don't sound like that is going to go well does it, the big valves go in the big holes and the small valves and there are only 16 of them and not 32 ......... you get the picture

  17. Haha better get a litre of vodka in too then for good measure before I chuck the whole head out the window... or myself

  18. Managed to strip down the turbo unit last night so that i can send off the core for refurb.

There's around 2mm of play in the shaft. In other words its bolloxed.
Not sure about those half moon pieces missing on the turbine wheel. Don't know if there supposed to be there on not??

Will blast & sonic clean all the other parts and give them a coat of factory grey high temp paint.

ha ha ha that's from where take away material so they balance the blades, this probably spins at about 120k rpm

  20. Managed to blast the exhaust manifold and turbo last night while on my break at work.
Dropped them in the sonic bath afterwards to make sure they were clean and rinsed of blast media.

Ordered up the Factory Grey paint so will give them a few coats next weèk.

Also a quick pic of the Ultrasonic cleaning fluid that i use. Amazing stuff 70af4a9df1e302cc0800733753cceb7e.jpg 0e21b702f603897f6d5988d178f3965c.jpg 873ebbc353cdb31be7bae8e06e931ab1.jpg 1580a333dfcaf09974df2bbd9d983aaf.jpg

can you ultrasonic plastic parts @Trophyboy like a fuel sender unit?

  26. Haha thanks bud. Cant wait to start building it back up. Just need to figure out where all the bolts go once there all back from the platers :grinning:

  27. I'm genuinely not sure Matt as ive only done metal parts but if injectors can be done then cant see why not.

  28. Yes you can no problem, we often do plastic parts

  29. Little update....

Collected the freshly honed block, polished crank and cams yesterday from the machine shop.

Friday night was spent masking off the block for 2 coats of etch primer, 2 coats of factory grey on the block ends and 3 coats of high temp satin black on the front/rear of block and obviously a Budweiser in between coats haha.

Hopefully drop the crank in this weekend as i collected my mains cap bearings & thrust washers from Renault this morning. Also need to seal up the main end cap with Reinzosil.
Just need to source some big end bearings now as Renault have no stock in UK or France.
