R26 Mk3 rod’s and pistons into a Mk2 ???

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by B6lee, Aug 8, 2019.

  1. Well as the engines are identical has anyone on here actually just swapped out the rods and pistons for some mk3 ones so can safely run more power ?

Looking to run a nice safe 300hp without the expense of a forged build

If you are going to buy new rods and pistons from Renault, it will cheaper to buy Forge,d as Renault rods and pistons are a fortune.

If you get a second hand set, you still have to change the bearings, gaskets etc etc and you are only going to save a couple of hundred, okay may be a bit more, but if you fit forged rods and pistons, then there is no further you need to go.

  3. my mates done it in his turbo clio...just come back from spa and the ring with no problems. The thing is fkn fast, even on a mild state of tune.

  4. What did he use and how did he go about it ?
I’m thinking of fitting a used set with some new bearings.

  5. Wonder if it’s possible to slip them up in the bottom rather than taking the head off

    No
    Its a head off job

  9. its wasnt straight forward..the pistons had to be machined to fit the uprated rods he had.
