Any way to stop the sagging over the spare wheel well? There's a gap between the carpet and the stuff in the wheel well so it sags, I assume a new one will do the same?
My boot carpet folds in half and seems to have some reinforcement in it, unsure what it actually is but can't say mine ever sags
Mine sags terribly, to the point where I have to put anything of weight around the edges. My previous Meg didn't. Only difference being this one has a spare wheel the previous had the inflation kit. Possibly the foam holding the Inflation kit in place offered more support?
Mine's the same, the carpet folds in half with two bits of board stuck underneath but it still sags into the spare-wheel well. I have the spare-wheel and the insert all fitted but the carpet/board still sags into it. It’s definitely a job for the future to put something stronger in beneath the carpet therefore would be interested in what others have done to resolve this?? One way would be not to have the two separate thin boards (and therefore fold) but just one large thicker board. It would mean taking the floor out would be much harder, but the once in a blue moon that I would have to do this would be offset by actually being able to put something heavy in the boot!!
Mine does it too and I have a spare wheel. I think it must be down to the cheap way that the interiors are made.
Maybe but I've ran without the insert or spare wheel and the boot mat is more than upto the job of supporting my weight when doing stuff behind the fixed seats and can also support a set of wheels and Jack etc without sagging or collapsing
There is a serious difference in what your boot mat is made from and mine then! A carrier bag of shopping would fold it!
I don’t think the wheel and insert actually provide any support for the carpet/boards anyway, so as far as I can tell it wouldn’t matter if they were in or out. The insert looks like it’s just there for aesthetics and the big nut that holds the wheel down is a fair distance below the carpet-board so there is nothing holding the carpet-board up. Perhaps there are some quality differences (different suppliers etc.) and your boards are stronger than others?! Mine don’t feel to be damaged; it’s more that they are just not strong enough to span the well.
mines never been a problem but it rarely has anything in it other that a sub box but that's up against the left edge of the boot, had it cut so it doesn't affect the 'flap' on the carpet.
Christ mines useless, it seems to have failed where it folds, a bag with a few beers is heavy enough to make it sink more. I need a new boot carpet then.
Just been out and had a look, the part below the carpet has no support either as thats sank, am I missing a part of some description to support it all?
My r26 carpet is saggy and it does my head in. It's one of the jobs on my list. My boot also has a wiff of damp so I'm wondering if it's been wet at some point and that's what's softened the board inside the carpet. Should the mk2 have a support under the carpet like shown in Gavin's photo? (Although it doesn't appear to do anything! Ha ha)
Hmm... I may just get a thin sheet of mdf cut to shape and stick it under the carpet to make it flat, if a 2015 ones doing the same a new carpet isn't going to resolve it long term.
Yep mine's the same and sags. Been off the road for almost a year now so I've forgotten about how annoying it is. I considered either some thick foam cut to size to fit in between the spare wheel and the floor, or like you say an MDF section across the whole boot to support it.
The photos above are exactly like mine, I don't think the insert actually does anything other than cover the wheel, but then there is the carpet covering it?! If it were more rigid then it would support the carpet/boards. I wouldn't go to the trouble and expense of replacing it as it doesn't do anything. The only cure will be to cut some board to the shape of the removable carpet - not the whole floor as there is a section on the right hand side that isn't covered by the carpet.
Mine has what seems like ply in the cover. Solid and can hold a decent weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mine doesn't have that cut out like in the pic for the tools, so maybe there are two different boot floors! Mine doesn't sag and seems to be quite strong.
The piece with the cut-out is an insert that goes over the spare-wheel (I can’t see any logical reason for it); the carpet with the two bits of board sandwiched to the bottom then goes over the insert. So if you’ve never lifted the carpet up you might not know there was the insert underneath. It seems from all the differing posts above that some carpet boards are stronger than others, perhaps also the inserts are also stronger or of a differing design for some.
Mine has the solid board stuff sandwiched in the boot carpet, it seems to have failed on the fold, it the fabric that seems to have stretched.
Mine is like Gavin's and sags terribly. I have put a MDF board access the middle of mine and it helps. Both bits have sagged on mine
Random one.... can anyone who's boot carpet has not sagged take a pic of the underside, I think there are two different types, a bi-fold and a tri-fold.
