Hi, At present have 4x Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres on the car. Fronts now need replacing (rears still OK ) and have seen Pilot Sport 4 DT1 is now available in 235/40/R18 also. Any problems replacing the fronts with these while the standard MPS 4 tyres remain on the rear of the car ? Presume it will be OK ? Thanks.
purists will tell you not to mix tyres. I've had cars with mixed front rear and on the same axle. It only becomes an issue at the busy end of the tyres performance. Otherwise you wont even notice.
Might be an old wives tale but i dont see a problem if the fronts are the same and the rears. I wouldn't want to start mixing front left and rights etc.
I had to do this at one stage with my old Meg, had no issues at all. I actually put the old ones on the front to wear them out quicker so I could replace them with more Dt1's.
Mixing on the same axle is only an issue during the performance stages of the tyre..otherwise you would never know. In reality, same brand and type of tyre all round offers best chances of working correctly
