OK guys this is a thread just to see if there is any sort of interest and I mean serious interest in the above. Let's start by saying I already had a set of these on my old supercharged mini cooper s that ran in time attack and they where amazing for the money. After looking for fully adjustable coilovers with top mounts you are pretty limited woth what is available and they are around the £2k plus. For anything cheaper you won't get fully adjustable nor will you get top mounts. http://www.meisterr.co.uk/ Please have a look through the site and see whats what bit I contacted the owners to see if they have any plans for making mk3 coilovers and that o will start a thread and see the interest. Price wise they will be about £700-800 and please don't think these are poor quality, mine where perfect amd very easy to adjust. If they feel there is enough interest they may look to produce an affordable, well made, fully adjustable coilover with top mounts for less money then b14s
I would still take a set of B14's over these. Superior damping and build quality any day over a cheap set of Coilovers even with top mounts.
Jamie have you ever seen, used, or been in a car with these? I cam honestly say there is no way I'd have b14s over these.
No i haven't but they are in the same price range and look incredibly similar to BC and HSD stuff, Which IMO is not the best when there are far better options out there. Horses for courses though, Ive had my fair share of "cheaper" setups on older cars and won't be making that mistake again. I can totally understand why people would choose them though but they are not for me. Generic dampers just in different body to suit different applications. No thanks. Fully adjustable isn't the be all an end as well. I'll await those that come along and say you don't need to drop 1.5-2k on a set of good coilovers as you won't notice the difference between hem and the cheaper options, That simply isn't true and anyone who has actually experienced the top end stuff will be able to testify as to ho much better the damping and overall feel and quality is when you choose one of the higher end stuff.
No I totally agree that something like nitron or cross etc will be superior but my point is that 80% of people won't feel the £1-2k price difference. Ive owned 5 fast minis that have had ap, kwv1, kw challenge, meister, springs and honestly for the money they are very very good. The point isnt to say they will out perform kw clubsports etc it's just seeing if people are interested in a cheaper option that will offer 80% of the thrills for more then half the price. It's nothing to do with being tight or stingy but a coilover that I've experienced that holds its own with the expensive stuff to me seemed like something the mk3 could do with
It would be good to see a cheaper option aimed at those not wanting to spend big money on the top end stuff, Im not one of those but can appreciate why people would. I had actually enquired to see if BC would of been interested in making some for the MK3 but they said no, That was a good year or two back mind you.
What meister said to me was the megane isn't as popular as the typical hatches but if there is demand then they will look in to it. I'm a massive believer in pay cheap pay twice but having run them for a few years on my mini on and off track I was over the moon otherwise I wouldn't bother investigating the option
I've had meister's on my old civic and they totally transformed the car even when playing about with the dampening setting I could feel the difference between hard and soft. If they were able to make stuff for mk2's Id totally be interested
Agree.. mostly. My take is most people won't be able to extract the performance difference from a BC/HSD/Meister... and maybe the price delta doesn't make up for the difference in feel. But i would imagine most people would immediately feel the damping difference...whether that makes them want to pay out £1200 more is another story. I was told that these do come from the same place as BC's (Tawain IIRC??) I stated in another post i was very happy with my BC's on the Mazda. If i didn't track or just wanted to refresh my suspension these would be a no brainer and without a doubt will be better than replacing with new-standard suspension... anything more i would opt for KW/Nitron etc.
Yes I believe they are made same place as bc just as ap are made same place as kw. I ran these in track and where great, they do offer a clubsports competitor at clubsport price.
Mate had these on his S2000, trackday'd the hell out of it and drove it hard on they road they never missed a beat! seemed a nice coilover with plenty of adjustment
I'll be emailing them tomorrow about this so is there anything in particular that different with the megs suspension set up? I have no clue what set up these run I haven't even looked
I had a set of these on my old mg zs (H&R civic mb chassis) they where fine for a cheaper set of coilovers. I swapped them for a set of tien master flex with electronic damping control £2k+ worth. The tien's where leagues ahead. Far better quality with much better damping
'Far better quality with much better dampening' and a huge difference in the price... I've been running the Zeta R's on my Pulsar for 5 years now, they have been absolutely spot on, I worked with Jerrick at the time to get the fit just right. They have a huge range of dampening adjustment more than enough for your occasional track day user just stiffen them up as you go, back them off for driving on the road. The GT1s he is currently working on are fantastic.
This sparks interest in me. I don't want to go the KW Clubsport route for a car that sees 99% road use (2-3 track days a year tops). I was thinking of going B14 but then I still have to get camber plates that fit them.. So I'm interested to see where this is heading!
Can anyone tell me what suspension set up the Meg 3 runs ie torsion beam, mcphearson strut etc so I can forward this on
