275 Megane ECUs and replacements

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by ultralight, Mar 17, 2017.

  1. Long story short:
I can get my hands on a good condition car for a reasonable price.

Drawbacks: seats (factory leather Recaros), Airbags, wheels and ECUs are gone. Old owner has definitely parked it at the wrong place.

Good for me, as I'd like to build it into a more dedicated track tool for tuition purposes.

I'm not worried about the interior or the wheels. Easy enough to replace.

What does bug me: replacing engine ECU? Is it a matter of giving the VIN to a dealer and getting a new one? Plug that in, and everything would work?

Is mileage stored on engine ECU or elsewhere?
Will original keys work, or are they paired with something else?

What other major ECU units could've gone missing?

    Help appreciated.
Need to make a decision on the car by Weds.

  2. You'd find everything you need it just might be a waiting game. A lot of R26 ecu's have gone in clio conversions. Don't think the mileage is stored in the Ecu but I could be wrong. You'll probably need new keys but then again I aren't sure.

All I know is no task is too big and you could end up with a bargain. These things are in the breakers all over. They've become cheap, kids get in them (I'm only 25 but sensible) and wrap them around a tree just like 172's

  3. It's a 275, and from what I understand the ECUs on them can pose an issue. One Renault dealer now told me that "just buying a new ECU" will do the trick, but it won't know mileage? Keys seem to be coded to a separate ECU?

  4. Ah yeah different story then I can imagine with it being newer it will be a little harder. If they're saying that though then you must be able to just replace it. Did they give you a price on an ecu and can you programme a mileage in?

  5. You need to buy a new ECU (or get a old one and 'virginize' it). Then you need to pair the ECU with the rest of the car and learn the VIN number into the ECU (Clip operation, dealer can definitely make it). Then you have to learn your keys (which ever keys you have). This should be it.

Mileage is stored in the dashboard only, so no issues there.

Regarding ECUs, there aren't too many of them and hard to believe someone stole the ICH or the gateway of the car.
