Megane 265 Cambelt.

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by James, May 9, 2016.

  1. I've just brought a 2011 265 engine with 41k(thought it was 2012 but checked with the seller and he said it's a 2011).

Didn't tell him why I was asking.

Started stripping the parts off it and noticed the oil filter looks brand new, took the coils off and the spark plugs are also brand new. Both look like they was fitted yesterday.

I removed all the bits to fit a new water pump and cambelt and that also looks brand new.

It has the normal white paint to mark the timing so it has been changed.

Now do I fit my new belt and water pump or leave it as it is.

Looks like someone spent a bit of money on the car just before someone rear ended it.

  2. There should be production date on the water pump i guess? You can leave the pump if you are 100% shure it is new but i would change the belt if its taken out already, it wont cost much anyway and then you are 100% on the safe side.

  3. Yeah you're right.

I'm planning in keeping it for a few years yet so makes sense.

Now I just need to know if I can swap the cam wheels from my old engine to this 265 one?

I'd get the timing checked if it's got any sign of tipex timing marks
