Meg 2 225 no dash lights, not starting

  1. Hi Forummers,
Recently purchased a 225 turbo Megane to convert into a track only car. Should be great fun when all up and running...
Picked it up cheap (for Aussie prices) with a steering fault STOP alert on the dash which is on the list of things to do.
Unfortunately a new problem has arisen which prevents the car from starting, which I am sure will impress the roll-cage guy immensely.
    Symptoms:
Car unlocks and locks fine. Interior lights come on with door open.
Start button and key slot illuminate. Radio, cabin fan, lights all seem to work, haven’t checked elec windows though. No lights or messages or anything on the dash, only the immobiliser light flashing. Steering locked.
Had the engine bay fuse box out to check the electric steering fuses and all the cables went back in again but maybe need rechecking?
Checked the fuses on the battery terminal and those both good.
Seats have been removed along with all of the sopping wet foam from under the carpet. Have I upset something by no longer having the seats plugged in?

Any pointing in the right direction for further testing will be appreciated.

  2. Not to point out the obvious but have you checked the battery.

Mine did this, unlocked fine but wouldn't start or unlock the steering lock.

Whipped out the battery for a full charge and voila fired back to life.

Mine doesn't like sitting dormant for too long.

  3. Quick update,
Dash light back up and running but steering lock stuck in the locked position. Clicking but not unlocking.
    Fun times.

  4. It was something of a challenge, but the steering wheel lock is now removed. It’s almost as if they deliberately make these things in such a way as to be difficult to remove...
Anyhow, the car still won’t start, with the immobiliser continuing to flash even once the card has been accepted. Found a damaged plug (looks like electrical burn/melting) into the engine bay fuse box - it is the plug for the headlights. Fuses are all still good and it seems unlikely that this is a part of the problem, but will try to source a replacement plug and get that wired in.

  5. Clip ran a full reidentify all computers process, which got me started once, but would not restart. Only fault left now is a steering lock not diagnosable error.
Plan is to obtain and fit a replacement uncoded steering lock mechanism, which will hopefully get me fully functional again.
