Mapped out remapping - any feedback?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by ginge191, Jul 20, 2015.

  1. Come across this and got a fairly reasonable quote of £190 for a 260/360 rolling road remap

They seem to have a decent reputation online, wondering if anyone has used or heard anything about them?

  2. Anyone with mapping experience can suggest whether this is a wise move?

  3. the meg is a bit of a pain to map. I would use RSTuning or a RStuner box and a remote map.

  4. What makes them tricky to map; is it something specific that only Renault tuners know about?

  5. Just another debate will start with this but there not more tricky to map.. Just rs and all got a monopoly created by everyone saying this.. Just look through there reviews and other cars they done to see if they seem genuine.. Sure at one point rs tuning were doing good genuine custom maps but now from what I hear is they chuck a generic stage 1 map on and they say the clutch is slipping on dyno if it don't make the figures..

  6. Lots and lots of crappy maps out there. There was a thread on here with someone with a fuzzy map.

I had one when I first got my car , it was rubbish !

  7. I would get your hearing tested Josh

  8. As said been much discussion about this, but speaking to various people up my way on the forums..... There are other capable mappers than RSTuning. Thinking that RS Tuning are the be all and end all is just ridiculous. Like why should you travel hundreds and hundreds of miles there and back just for a stage 1 map when you can go to a very well known capable mapper 30/40 miles down the road.. Because they're not recommended on here? Get real. There are other tuners.

This sort of scare mongering thing if you don't get your car mapped by RST your car is gonna implode is just a nonsense. See it all the time on here. Look up the reviews, get opinions from other people. If it's a stage 1 map it's not rocket science, any decent mapper should be able to get a good result. Especially if it's a live map which IMO is what you should go with.

  9. Actually having experience of a crap map , I am not scare warmongering. People can , and do get it so , so wrong.

  10. My car was mapped by Cooksport 3 years ago... no issues....whatsoever. There are dodgy maps out there, but as long as you go to reputable peeps who know their stuff shouldnt be a problem. Too much torque will bend rods, if its mapped correctly though by people who know the engine (and its limits) it should be fine.

  11. Fair enough, there definitely are some bad mappers out there.. But there are also some very good ones out there that are not RST. Just saying as any other tuner seems to be instantly written off if it's not them and frankly it's frustrating to read.

  12. I can give you a contact, you just have to download the map off the ecu and when you receive the new one upload it.
He has a tuning shop and knows his job, he can tweak the map sor your whishes. If you want he will give you more info than I know for sure. Pm me if your interested

I think from a read around; the monopoly is held by a select few, but that doesn't mean to say they're the only mappers
I think, and i am, having a rolling road before/after it'll show quite nicely the gains...if i start to see 'dangerous temps' etc from my OBD/dashcommand reader then i'll kick a fuss with them

  14. I know your dashcommand cannot read afr , or det / knock and how much timing its pulling.

each to their own like , but personal experience has taught me the path I have gone down.

  15. ginge191 let us know how you get on.

Milosb I wouldn't mind talking with your contact if you can send me his details.

  16. Like said there is plenty of places to get a quality map done just do a bit of homework about who you choose. We all know there's guys on here who only go to one place and it's nice to have a recommendation but I'd actually like to hear something amazing about somewhere else for a change. I personally wouldn't go anywhere that's constantly being defended. Sometimes the best tuners are ones you hear the least about.

  17. Totally agree.
As with anything once a company has a monopoly their quality slips to shit as they have no competition.

It's not just slipping clutches it's also weak/broke actuators too.

It's the old hardware at fault excuse.
I'm sure one or more of the cheerleaders will be along soon to tell us how they are happy with rs tunings service.

  18. Did you have this map done or was it on the car when you brought it?

  19. Tbh I was happy with Paul's service and he didn't mind me working on mine or me pals clio whilst I was there.

No doubt there's other mappers that are more then capable but I don't trust my local mapper, he seems to get good results on vw stuff but my mates Astras pistons didn't like him lol

  20. That's because it's a Vauxhall.
I know plenty of people myself included have had a piston go on the c20 and z20.

  21. I know there fairly common but Courtney who since mapped after its rebuild put it down to the fact the injectors were maxed out and it was running dangerously lean

  22. That's mad. It's so easy and pretty cheap to uprate the fuelling on them too.

  23. Already done James.

  24. Do you know if any mods we're removed before you brought it?
Just thinking because I know someone who brought a focus st with printouts but found out later it had a lot of mods removed before he brought it so his map was miles out on a rolling road day.

  25. thats a fair point , but no - I bought it with a center box chop only. It was mapped with that.

    Nice work mate. Looking good.

Wrong post haha. I want to get something mapped out.

  27. So I'll write a short write up on this guy.

He works mainly on his own (his partner is studying) but has 'contracts' with 360motorsport who use him for all their mapping jobs.

I requested a rolling road before and after printout as well as the map for which he stated 260/350 would be achievable and in his opinion sensible.

When is arrived, greeted by an extremely pleasant young man (27/8?) who was consistently polite and welcoming.

We had a quick chat about what e would do and that the car would need to cool down to 50* as he's found that renaults often kick a fuss if over that temp. So we firstly jumped on the rollers and got the before printout sorted.

Left the car to cool whilst he read my current map and offered us tea/biscuits etc whilst he worked his magic; took about 30 minutes to write it up.

He then loaded it back to my car and away we went for the after roll.

All in all, he was very knowledgeable, welcoming, reliable, polite and I would most definitely go there again. He has time for every customer, explains every part of what he's doing and professional in all manners.

To conclude, if anyone wanted a quote of map from him, find him on Facebook as mapped out remapping and drop him a message. He'll be happy to discuss!

Also, I'd spoken to KTR for the same job, before and after prints and same power figures, they wanted to charge £400+ just so you're aware of the varying prices.

And no, I'm on no commission for this
