Lowering Springs

  1. Hi Guys

    After some advice please.

Been toying with the idea of lowering the Meg for a while now and now that the cooksports are back in stock have taken the plunge.

Would it be ok just to fit the springs on the car with no other upgrades/refresh considering the car is a 2008 model with 85k miles on the clock?

Or would you recommend changing the struts/top mounts etc at the same time?

Any help would be gratefully received

    Thanks

  2. taking mine to Mr Black on Monday for springs fitting - suppose what you upgrade depends on how knackered your original parts are...

  3. Yea true. To be honest all is ok, just fancy lowering the car, but trying to avoid a huge cost before christmas.

Also, Ive read. Some reviews that once the car is fitted with cooksports, that the bumper scrapes on speed humps etc. Any of you guys with cooksports fitted experience this? Is it that bad?

    Cheers

    Daz

They're too low for daily driving on cooksports in my opinion

  5. Not had any scrapes on my car with Cooksports fitted. Had them for a good year now, and are fine for daily driving.

  6. I've had my brother in law following me in his R26 with Cooksports - I could see in the mirror that it just, and I mean just cleared the square speed bumps but he had to almost stop to go over them. I was going to lower mine but that changed my mind.

  7. That's my thinking too.

  8. Thanks for the replies Guys. I think I wont bother then.

Having said that, just found I need a new strut on the front because of one leaking.

So question is, would you guys put a new (standard) spring on at the same time? Original springs now done nearly 90k miles.

  9. Nothing wrong with cooksports being to low! Mines a daily and I've never scrapped

  10. just got back from having my Cooksport's fitted.. IMO not much difference in ride quality going over speedy humps.. and we have some fairy aggressive one's round here..

  11. Thanks for the feedback.

Have you experienced any of the bumper scraping others have mentioned?

Also, how have you found the ride? More firm? More soft? Better than standard?

  12. It's not that much more firm than standard over bumps, but does reduce body roll. To me it seems more positive in the bends, touch less willing to understeer which I put down to a stiffer Spring at the rear

  13. Thanks for the input.

To be fair the majority of people rave about them as springs.

I was all set on putting them on the car, and have them in the boot ready to go. But then read that some people experience the causing the bumper to scrape in certain circumstances, which caused me some doubt as mine is a daily driver and will not really see any track action apart from a trip to the ring next year!
