Picked up my RS265 cup the other day and brought it into work to put it up in the air and have a general check over everything. Theres oil leaking down from where the n/s driveshaft goes into the gearbox and there's also a really loud rattling/clunking noise when you rotate the front wheels while in neutral. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal maybe something to do with the lsd or whatever. Has anyone else noticed this?
That’s exactly what my gearbox sounded like when I had it up on axle stands and rotated the wheels - like a loose bearing rattling around - there was a whine too when it was running. No oil leaking though. the whine got louder over time until I eventually decided enough was enough and went for a refurbished box via Renault, because of the low mileage it had done. It was faulty diff bearings. Bit of a shock really so hope that’s not the case for you too - cost a fair bit!
Mine does have a slight whine too I noticed it on the motorway driving the car home. I'm still in the warranty period so the dealer said they'll collect the car and take it to a gearbox specialist.
I’d jump on them coming to collect the car and getting it to a box specialist. Don’t want to fork out for a rebuild!
