Loud clunk from rear

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Cleetus, Jun 30, 2014.

  1. Hi
Thought this was the exhaust but garage says no, it happens on speed humps even at low speed and on very bad road surfaces, anyone got any ideas?
    Much appreciated

    Anything done recently?

  3. Not really, front drive shafts last year and engine top mount, seems to happen when the left rear corner hits a big compression... was thinking dampers but no sign of oil leaks...

  4. Did you ever find out what this was? Mine has a loud clunk when going over bumps from the rear, I've had exhaust checked today today and they said it was fine?!??

  5. Boot catch needs tightening?

  6. Mine still does it, how do you adjust the boot catch

  7. I've emptied everything out of the boot today (parcel shelf, jack, carpet, spare wheel bits, put seats down) and it still does it. I then came to the conclusion that I think it's something to do with the boot lid or something in the boot lid? Gonna try tightening the boot catches tomorrow, I presume you have to remove the plastic trims to get to them?

  8. How do you tighten the boot catch? Mine has always been noisy (might be the same as you have).
To test - just try lifting the boot up without opening the catch... mine is noisy when I try.

  9. I had a clunk from my 250 on the rear over bumps, it was the exhaust heatshield which had come loose and was hitting the exhaust

  10. Normally remove the trim around the bottom of the bottom to expose the catch, there will be two torx bolts, one on each side, loosen, and move the catch downwards abd retighten. Normally they will have markings on them like a ruler. Another trick is too wrap electrical tape around the catch.
