Loosening/ Removing Bleed Nipples From The Alloy Calipers?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by mrpink, Feb 23, 2015.

  1. Is there a good way to remove the bleed nipples from the calipers on the 225/230/175?

I'm replacing the seals so have the calipers off the car and I'm a bit worried about the chemical reaction from the difference in metal 'welding' the nipples in so that they wont undo -I've seen them snapped off before and don't really want to be stuck in that situation

Plenty of penetrating fluid and loosen/tighten them as you go as that should help clean the thread up and break the bond.

Thats how we done them on my callipers when the go rebuilt last year, Touch of lithium grease or something, i can't quite remember, when you rebuild them to help prevent them seizing.

  3. Cheers pal.
Did you use any heat? as I've read about heating and then trying to use some sort of freeze spray on the nipple to get it to shrink.

I'm just dubious to them wanting to budge :worried:

We didn't have to but i think that would of been the next step if we still struggled with them.

  5. Loosen then tighten rinse and repeat. I just took my time.

  6. Cheers guys.
Bought the penetrating freeze spray from Screwfix, but ended up using normal penetrating spray and heat, but also on a Tbar instead of a spanner so the pressure was evenly distributed.
