Hello guys, at the moment ive got a 172 track car with the usual handling/braking mods. Im looking for an upgrade started to look at clio 197's but could really do with something a bit more powerful as 197's are very similar in performance to my 172. I know the R26 is the car to go for as it has a lsd which makes a big difference but its just out my budget at the moment. The prices have come down for megane 225s surprised that you can pick them up now for as little as 2k an some decent examples with coilovers, exhaust, remap etc for around £2500, now thats more my budget. Ofcouse need extra 1k or so for part upgrades I just wanted to know if they are any good as a track car? or is it best just to save up for a R26? if so what are the least amount of mods required to make them half decent on track, power wise i just want it to have a remap so around 270bhp ofcourse with exhaust an induction. which shocks an springs/coilovers? upgraded calipers needed or standard good enough? i only do hanful of trackdays a year an i plan to strip it out as just keep it purely for that purpose I know this has probably been asked loads of times but i did try searching but for some reason i couldn't find anything. If anyone knows of any useful threads then please post them below, ive got alot of research to do as i have no idea what these cars are like. I know clio's 172/182 inside out because im always on the forum lol. I know turbo cars can come with more problems but im ready for the upgrade now, had plenty fun out my 172. Thank You
Megane r26 is just all round savage especially remapped .i cant explain the HUGE difference between a 172 and a r26. Do ureself a favour and wait and save and get an r26.simples .the lsd is sublime
I got an r26 as my first track/fast road car last year. I googled budget track day cars and R26s kept coming up. Never once did google suggest a 225. Or keep the Clio and spend your money on TDs. I just did a TD and there were loads of them and they always seem to be driven by loons. :-)
Mine is track car and I paid £3500. It had fill mot, 280bhp remap, quickshifter, dump valve, cooksports, etc and FSH. For the money they are unbeatable. Despite 115,000 miles it's passed the last 2 mots with no advisories so always buy on condition. Its probably worth £3000 now if that. VFM!!!
