Load rating

  1. Looking for a bit of advice on tyres please chaps. I'm currently on MPSS 225/40 ZR18 92Y XL. I want to go to 235 which are meant to be on the car. I've found MPSS 235/40 ZR18 95Y (non XL). Will the load rating of s 95Y be the same as that of a 92Y XL? Are there differences? Cheers

  2. Well the XL stands for Extra Load so that tyre has stiffer /stronger side wall and will offer a firmer ride

  3. But with the load rating on a 92Y tyre being 630 kg (up to 680 kg in XL form I think) and the 95Y, 690 kg, would this not mean the side wall is stiffer/stronger on the latter as it has a larger load rating?

  4. 95Y=XL. I am sure..

  5. The correct load rating is 95 for that car. XL or not is irrelevant I assume. 92 would be too low, at least officially.

  6. So that is why the car has 92Y XL at the min to make up for the extra load rating it should have?
