Limp mode

  1. Hi all, my wife had to swerve on the freeway to avoid a missing section of road that was dug up, the car went immediately into limp mode and errors came up with the red spanner, and check injection system, accompanied by check anti-pollution system. Does anybody know if this is just a matter of clearing the errors via dealer and all should be back to normal? Or something else ?

  2. I would not bother going to a stealership unless it's under warranty, but yeah get it plugged in, could be anything

  3. So true Mikey, sadly it went in and they highlighted the pipe with little flying saucer as being the culprit, in all fairness it had perished a year ago and I replaced it with std one way valve, so I can understand the ecu seeing that air flow isn’t 100% there, however that diy pipe is good and has been their over a year and no issues, so def didn’t cause the problem, so the next question would be, does the ecu need to have the 100% correct pipe in order to get out of limp mode, the technician indicated it’s specifically because it’s part of the air system

  4. Latest feedback, Renault called and said the pipe is not the issue, they have spent a lot of time checking and the Turbo is causing the error, new one R44,000 :-/ I'm taking the car through to a turbo specialist tomorrow, see what they say.. And yep I'm putting a new return air feed pipe today so there is no confusion.. Funny thing is Renault called the wife highlighting that they heard she may be looking to trade the vehicle in ROFL.

  5. whats mileage on car, bet not turbo, forget reno take to independent

  6. Mileage 90,000km. So took it to independent (stallion turbos) they said turbo is blown, removed intake pipe to check. So quoted to fit refurbished turbo inners and fault find. Apparently turbo housing is cracked so had to replace full turbo, currently waiting for test drive to see if all working... estimation is R18,000.

  7. Some feedback, Refurbished turbo is in, and new oil, new oil filter, new air filter, and I replaced the vacum pipe section myself (R1300 for pipe).
Total Price was R19,000 and car feels good, however there is a slight whistle from the turbo, Stallion indicated its air coming from the wastegate lever arm, ie there is slight wear there, and air is coming out. He said if we are not happy with it then we welcome to bring it back and they'll make a plan to strip the turbo out and remove wastegate arm and machine a shim or something to correct the issue.. From my perspective, I would have thought that the procurement of a refurbished Turbo would have meant all worn parts replaced with new, including flapper arm if it is worn... Having said that, the cars been in the workshop over three weeks and I can't bare it to go back for eg another two weeks.... So we'll probably just trade it in :-(
As for Stallion, they sorted the problem, at less than half the price that the dealer was asking, they seem decent and good people, just wish they had performed quality check on the refurbished turbo prior to fitting, and corrected the issue, so that when I come to collect everything is 100%...
