225 Lights won't turn off...?

  1. I have an '06 225, and for some reason i can't turn off the lights.

On the lights stalk, in the sidelights position, my sidelights come on, and in the headlights position, the headlights come on (as they should).
However in the off position, my headlights come/stay on.

The lights do go out when you turn off the ignition, but it does mean i have to drive everywhere with the sidelights or headlights on.

I'm unsure if i have auto headlights - i have auto on the end of the lights stalk, however holding it in for the required 5-10 seconds doesn't seem to do anything (either with ignition on or off).

It's not a major issue, but it does look like I'm trying to intimidate people when i pull in behind someone on a dual carriageway with my lights on in broad daylight.....!

    Any suggestions?

  2. Yeah you've got auto lights if it says it on the stalk.
Try holding it for 20 seconds with the engine on and stationary - you should get a message on the dash saying auto lights off.

It sounds as thought the sensor is playing up/ too sensitive i think they may have tweaked / altered it in the facelift cars.
The sensor is in the rear view mirror bit on the windscreen could be worth checking its not dirty etc if you cant turn them off with the stalk, although if the stalk isnt doing anything the stalk itself may be faulty

  3. OK I've had a go at this - tried holding the button in for 20 seconds (in both the off position and the sidelights position) but to no avail; no beep, nothing.

I've taken the cowling off the rear view mirror mount and everything is connected as far as i can see - is the senso the one facing the windscreen or the little blue thing underneath?

The stalk is successfully switching between sidelights, headlights and turning the fogs on and off, so i'm thinking either sensor issue (would they go off if i disconnect the sensor?) or fuse (if there is one purely for the auto lights, since everything else seems to work OK....)?
