Let the hate start...

  1. Was bored this weekend so made a splitter won't be to many peoples taste.

It it removes the bumper under tray. Still need to add a air dam to it

  2. You going for a flat floor look?

  3. This goes all the way to the sump at the moment. Back is having something done too. Flat floor would be nice I shall see.

  4. I'll keep an eye on this

  5. Be interesting to see if you can feel any difference on track. Are those fog light holes pipe lined to the brakes?

  6. Yup. You have 1" gap before the wheel hits. You can use a rectangle section to maximise room though

  7. Just did the stand test and it can hold 12 odd stone so that's all good!

  8. What you going to cover it with? If your feeling flush you could get some carbon cloth and epoxy and cover it.

  9. If I was going to do I would of used thinner plywood. That's 12mm at the moment got another board to try and make it spot on.

  10. Very top gear me thinks and we know what happened to that

  11. Set on fire for tv/entertainment. All BTCC cars use 12mm ply for the splitters.

  14. Well I never knew that dan,

  15. We'll you learn something every day I thought it would have been made with carbon

  16. Erm might be cheap cos they always get broken

  17. I would have thought fiberglass.. is plywood light or have they lightened it by carving out those holes?

  18. Tuning by Homebase and B&Q :tongueout:

  19. Why are they using that material ? is it in the rules and regs ? F1 cars have ( or had ! ) wooden boards bolted to the underside to stop them going too low ..

  20. It's cheap and easy to work with. The regs will only state length from the body that's allowed.

Not seen a splitter made up like this on a meg yet, i know someone had one on cs on a trophy at one point.

  22. How it's mounted -

  23. Well if its good enough for the BTCC. No wait , who am I kidding. At least carbon wrap it man !

  24. You could spray it black and nobody would know.
I think the point regarding breakage is valid. They must get smashed all the time in the BTCC.

  25. Yep just needs finishing off with an electric plain while its fitted

  26. To be fair ply is pretty dam strong stuff

  27. The chap who started up Stealth Sport a few years back in the Clio game. Nice car but my god could he talk your ear off. Needless to say the company lasted 10 minutes...

  28. I suppose using ply makes complete sense especially as its relatively light and extremely cheap compared to making a plastic, fiberglass or carbon fibre equivalent... I suppose people mention motorsport and automatically we think big budgets.. cutting edge technology... (no pun intended)

  29. To be honest it's function over form so if it works and it's gonna be used on track then why not.

As said, if it's finished off in black it'd looks the part. You could spray it with Plastidip I guess and no one would tell.

Good work, A few friends run track cars with proper splitters made of Ply.

Make sure you mount it to the chassis though or you'll end up minus a bumper when it starts being effective

  33. The bumper is not attached to it in one place. all done via the chassis!

  34. I can see one of these being fitted to the SHEEP very soon

  35. What's the sheep mate?

  36. What's the SHEEP, you'll get shot for not knowing what the SHEEP is , my mate will be having a dicky fit right now , I'll get my mate to put some pics up of it, but be warned, you'll want it.
Reason it's called the sheep is he wanted to get in a couple of pictures and as its black we wouldn't let him , youll get the picture when you see it.

  37. Never heard of it mate. Mines black as well maybe I'll meet it on the track soon and battle it out...

  38. You got the link to the thread Steve? I've been trying to find it since forever hahah

  39. Lol maybe, you coming to donington with us next week mate
