KW V3 vs Clubsports / new wheels

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by VW TT, Jun 19, 2017.

  1. Hi. So which do I go for V3 or clubsports for a car I use daily and do 6-8 trackdays a year in? And why? Thanks. (Looking at KW as I have an authorised dealer and fitter very nearby)

Will match them with new wheels. But what's the best size offset tyre size etc ? Thanks again.

  2. Don't bother. You have Ohlins right and they are a great road/track set up as standard. Plus at Cadwell a better lap time than your 1:58 will come from getting more out of the car and yourself and some decent tyres atm. Don't join the under-utilised mod brigade, there everywhere.

  3. I'm sure the KW dealer could advise on wheels, and if you want to change the suspension go ahead and do it, not much point taking advice from the forum troll, he doesn't have a car let alone a renault....lol

Forum troll or not, he's right about the Ohlins. If you really must upgrade then get the RSC kit for them

  5. Out of interest, what makes you want to swap the ohlins?

  6. Thanks for the replies. I should have specified, I don't have the ohlins. Sorry that was an important piece of info!!

Not that I'm saying the standard setup is bad, far from it, but I enjoy the process of modifying and as long as its all improvements not just ruining the good work of Renault then I'm all for it. It's part of the fun for me.

  7. It's what it's all about mate, if you fancy changing it then go for it, as Jamie said, have a look at the RSC kit as well

  8. Thanks again. Ill have a look at that kit. Also been told the Nitron and KW clubsports are very good. Not heard much about any other setup....

Id be learning the car an chassis before dropping big money on a proper setup for them tbh.

I ran mine with stock suspension for almost 4 years before upgrading to some B14's and now some AST's. More than capable on the stock suspension.

  10. Yeah, shame about the last minute change with the Ohlins. My input on the suspension and coilovers was in your other thread.

  11. I know you're right. That's absolutely what I should do. But I love to modify haha.

  12. It is a shame but there seems to be great alternative options out there. Just need to research more about it all.

  13. I'm using BC coilovers, I ran at Bedford alongside a guy with KW and I reckon they're the same.

Well most run the basic BCs don't they?

  17. With the wheels and tyres it's hard to advise as you don't really have any objectives or budget and more importantly just 'like to mod' and that's all a bit random. So as a daily and track car you can go from doing nothing and just run your PS4 tyres to blowing £3.5K on sets of lightweights with wet and slick/semi slick tyres.

  18. I suppose I am being vague and random, sorry.

I just wanted ideal sizes for wheels and tyres. And a good choice of tyre for road and track. £2k budget for wheels and tyres. I know which are the better wheel makes and models.

  19. No need to apologise. You can do it for much less than £2K. Cheapest option is bang on some road/track tyres on your existing wheels. Except the compromise on the road. I'm not a fan of spacers and studs, spigot rings or big wheel offset changes, so you could get a cheap (or new) set of OEM wheels just for the track. The OEM have unique offsets. Tyres? Lots of choice road/track choice and much depends on the balance you need between road and track but Cup 2, Ado8R, budget NS2R.

Of course if you are into 'the look' rather than the lap time, you can spend more.

  20. Thanks for the reply Aerofoil. I'll look into it all.

  21. No worries. Once you stray from OEM the wheel choice is limited due to the offset, PCD and centre bore dia. You then have to balance how much offset change you want to accept, how that adjusts your scrub radius and adjusts track turn in sensitivity and what you feel is an acceptable additional hub loading.
