250 KTec or RSTuning remap

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by TEV250, Nov 7, 2015.

  1. Hi Guys,

I haven't heard much about K-Tec's mapping on the 250 Meganes really.

I was going to book in with RSTuning but seeing as Ktec are only half an hour from me, it would be good to hear from any people that have had a map on their 250 from Ktec and their experience ?

Seems silly to drive miles when they are on my doorstep. Can anyone offer any advice ?

Of course I want what's best for the car and money therefore is irrelevant.

    Thank You

  2. I would take the trip to RST buddy. I have seen KTEC mapping and its no comparison.

  3. Rs tuning is a must to see the full potential of your Megane FB_IMG_1446750436195.jpg

  4. Group buy on here at the moment for £100 off a map at RStuning. Finishes tomorrow so get your name down.

  5. What mods did you have with this ? That's an awesome power curve. Building all the way to 6500 and not dropping off. Just what I need !

  6. I won't be getting a map until March/April next year as my car needs a cam let, service and tyre between now and then.I already commented on it the other day saying the same. Bit of a shame really ! Maybe he will let me join the group buy but book for March/April time ?? Haha

  7. I booked on the last group buy and booked it for a couple months in advance? Might be worth calling him direct and asking pal

  8. All standard apart from a K&N air filter.

    RMASSIE77 likes this.
  9. I have booked my 250 in with K-Tec for remap, exhaust and induction kit, so far it's been a great experience with a good deal financially, they will rolling road it before and after so I will see the gains.........also they will be lending me a car while the work is being done !! Travelling down from herts.. Can't ask for more tbh !!

  10. Ķtec are crap with megs

  11. This is what I want to know. Why are they crap with megs is basically my question

  12. better ;-)

  13. I have been told and heard lots of bad storys about ktec .the problem is they try to get the torque too high

  14. I have a rs250 with 309hp and 344 torque its been perfect for 2 yrs

  15. Listen to andy bond he knows about meganes

Everyone on here will say RST, They have the monopoly on this forum.

Ive seen good and bad about Ktecs stuff, Of course you always hear the bad stuff on forums more than the good stuff. However i have also heard/seen bad stuff about RST.

I'd probably avoid Ktecs maps though and take the trip. However mine was mapped by a local company up here who have a very good rep and i highly doubt that RST could of done much if any better.

  17. I gained 150lbs of torque at 2500rpm going from ktec to rstuning

  18. I went to ade tuning in lancashire good results

  19. People call K-tec all the time but their very helpful on the phone, anyone heard of a Meg with one of their maps on go bang ?

  20. By the way mine was mapped by RS tuning as their miles closer but if K-tec were found the corner then I wouldn't of travelled

  21. How about Ktec regarding servicing and repairs ?? Any good ??

  22. I have , but I also know they have the highest torque reading rollers in the Northern Hemisphere

They tend to over engineer a build , and then wind down the map to 8/10 of what it should be.

  23. If that's to keep it safe then that's not a bad thing mate

  24. Bloke at ade tuning said he keeps the torque at around 340ish for megs250 to be safe

No need to keep it that low, They will happily do ~380lbs ft

  26. That's where ktec have problems taking it too high

Eh? Theres no problems running the Mk3 at those figures. Plenty guys on the continent running Hybrids at those figures.

  28. There is safe, and then there is no faith in your mapping Steve.

A safe map isnt just one that produces low figures.

  29. Running lean for example

  30. The customer service I've had at ktec is spot on and I will continue to go to David for parts etc and only really went for rstuning map because of the group buy amd the reviews on here and I won't lie the car is so much better for it

  31. Well to be honest I have not heard of any problems with our Megane maps but if someone would care to enlighten me I'd be happy to listen.

I do sometime wonder where some of this hearsay comes from on these forums. We DO NOT try and take the torque too high, what would be the point? Just to try and prove a higher figure than someone else? We have NEVER chased numbers, in fact we have just mapped a 250 today which has done 285bhp and 327lbs/ft of torque but I am sure there will someone come along and say those figures are a bit low!

I personally had one of the first Megane 250s which we eventually tuned to 337bhp on our dyno along with just over 360lbs/ft. During the few years I owned the car it was extensively tested and basically hammered on track and never missed a beat. We also did several high speed tests with the car to well over 160mph until it was eventually written off at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground by a 4x4 driver who was not paying attention.

On this very forum towards the end of last year another member stated our mapping was "dangerous" in response to a customer who had his car mapped with us and it only made 282bhp. A few weeks later I ended buying the Megane belonging to the forum member and he asked me to dyno test his car as it was a quick one. We tested it in the same manner as all other cars and it made a massive 2bhp more than the car he was criticizing and was running dangerously lean at the bottom end, in fact it was the worse mapped Megane 3 RS I had driven and we had to replace the ecu in order to remove the map as it was locked.

As a quick insight into our mapping, we run the 182 Clio race series, every car runs our in house mapped ecu and no car has suffered a map related engine failure in 2 full seasons of racing, this is across 30+ cars, we have some 275 Trophys owned by one the companies located at the Nurburgring, we have mapped these are they are used on an almost daily basis on the Ring, we have mapped literally hundreds of Meganes and have not seen one let go due to any form of mapping. Unfortunately if a problem does arise with any mapped car it is always the map that gets blamed first. We once had a customer asked if the map he had just had done was anything to do with the reason his boot lock was no longer working!

If anyone has any questions or uncertainty about our abilities we are always happy to talk to them about it, we are happy for customers to see their cars on the dyno and run through the mapping process in details should they like to know the ins and outs of it.

But please remember there are always two sides to every story and don't believe everything you see written on the internet!

    David.

  32. Wow and someone accused us of taking the torque too high!

  33. It is good to see you (K-Tec Racing) back on the forums and responding to some of the claims. However it might be better if you got more involved in the forum and let your experience do the talking rather than trying to counter any of the arguments.

There will always be someone out there who has a bad thing to say!

  34. As I've said, K-tec have always been happy to help and advise me on any matter, I've only spent a few quid over the phone and their never in a rush to get you off the phone, little things like that mean a lot, thank god I'm not closer to them, I may of spent a fortune with them, I've been out in a couple of prepared R26s and recently the white quite heavily modified 250, they all go well, the White 250 is some piece of kit, especially with a good driver round donington.

  35. Speak as you find, i run my megane rs 250 cup for two and half years, 12 track days and over 20,000 mile, had it mapped when it had only done just over 3.000 mile by Ktec, never missed a beat, was told by them that the milage was a bit low to see the best hp increase, but it still made 285. They also gave me a good price when i sold it to them, no messing paid in a flash.

  36. Thanks for the kind words guys, forums are always a much better place with genuine first hand experienced feedback.

    David.

  37. it was generally regarded after reading 100s of threads that a 225/r26 engine should be kept under 300lb/ft if you wanted longevity from the engine.
What have Renault done to the 250 etc to handle so much more torque safely??

    Stronger internals.

Always wondered about the ARP rod bolts for the mkII, Paul down at Tech-1 (ex K-Tech techie) has advised I go that route if tuning the car or using it a lot on track but this mod item never seems to get mentioned on this forum.

  40. Be better changing the rods along with the bolts but it's not cheap to do.
