Trying to diagnose a knocking sound that only happens when I brake. Before this, the noise would also be triggered by on/off the throttle but I tightened the gear box bolt 1/2 turn and that solved that. Is this normal for the steering track rod to move so much? Both sides have similiar amounts of movement so figured it might be normal? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oezf5FGQEdAgwY3LFtLCJ1lRkC40JaP6/view?usp=sharing TIA
ok, thats a positive start as in my opinion it would be unlikely that both sides would move the same amount if there was a failure. One side would have more play than the other, that said, a steering rack is a moving part, so both parts could be wearing evenly. Is there anything loose in the engine bay? Mount?
I hate undiagnosed bumps/knocks/noises. As a checklist i'd start with checking - Engine Mounts/Rear & Stabiliser? Gearbox mounts on both sides? Subframe bolts? Could pads be moving in the calliper? Does it happen moving one side to the other or in a straight line or both?
took it to my local specialised and suggested to replace both control arms and one of the swivels to be sure. Turned out the inner control arm bushing on both sides were shot - which is why i struggled to locate the noise as it was coming from both ends. Hefty bill of £620 for all the work but at least she's tight as a whistle now
