knackered brakes - replace with renault standard, aftermarket or upgrade??

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by mk2zetec, Sep 6, 2014.

  1. track day at oulton seems to have killed my front brakes. they're ok when cold but any sorted of 'spirited' driving and they judder like hell. thought the dashboard was going to come off on a blast last night.

someone mentioned it might just be pads but past experience tells me if its that bad then its likely to be discs. the discs themselves look relatively new, are the correct drilled version and have no signs of obvious wear, lips, ridges or cracks.

so if the answer is new brakes then what to go for

    standard renault replacements disks.
but with renault standard pads or alternatives?

aftermarket discs and pads - ktech do a brembo black disc that cheaper than the standard renault ones

upgrade to ktechs 330mm discs with separate bells and rotors but they're expensive (700+) or reylands similar kit at circa 500.
    any advice would be appreciated
    cheers

  2. Iirc the reylands kit is nothing special. I'm going with either so racing 312mm discs or brembo. Depends how much money I have end of the month.

  3. Stick with standard discs and uprated pads.

  4. which uprated pads?

  5. Ferodo ds2500. Haven't got them on the megane but they were superb on my old Clio 182.

  6. Don't really rate them on the meg tbh can't wait for when they need replacing

hc plain brembo discs £70but by the sound of it you don't need them yet, sounds like pad deposits on the disc to me.

  8. What don't you like about them?.

  9. As mentioned above it sounds like its the pad deposits making it judder especially if this happens when the brakes get hot. If you get the discs skimmed to remove the pad deposits and uprate to either performance friction or ds1.11 pads you'll be impressed with how much better they perform on track. Alternatively get brembo hc discs and new pads.

  10. Under harsh braking they don't fill me with confidence eg. Driving on the motorway today and having to slow down suddenly I honestly thought I was gonna go into the car in front, just the way the connection between pressing the brake and it actually braking to me it feels like they want to give in. If that makes sense lol

Although compare to my gf's 200 mine are absolutely amazing, will defiantly be going for carbon Lorraine's next time though
