Hey guys before I replace the key, just thought I'd pick some brains just in case it may be more than that. Been having issues with my key card now for a while, when I first had the car it worked fine, didn't even have to open the car by pressing the button, I could open it with it just being in my pocket (worked as it should do). After a while it stopped doing that and I now have to press the button sevral times before it even opens or locks, even the button on the door handle stops working to unlock it at times. (Apparently there's a common fault on them that can be resolved with a bit of soldering, which I'm hoping is the answer). Last day or so I've put the card into the slot and it says card not detected which it never before but a bit of playing about and it works and starts fine but occasionally does the same again. Any ideas? P.s - I have changed the battery in the card as well just in case it could have been that. Cheers Paul.
Basically there's a solenoid inside that has three contact patches, one will have broken from its solder. Eventually they'll all break. For my daily Meg (RS has always been ok) I ordered a cheap eBay keycard and followed a YouTube tutorial and fixed it myself. Total cost £2, Renault wanted three figures!!!
Aye mate, I asked Renault how much it was gonna cost for a new key and I almost developed tourettes there and then. Shocking price. Might do Tue same and hopefully will fix the issue. Was just wondering if anyone else had the same sort of problem and if it could possibly be something else other than the solenoid (obv hoping not )
Mine were bust managed to resolder mine back on lasted a few months then had to bite bullet and bought 2 new keys from renault.
