  2. how much did they charge and whats involved?

  3. Just had mine decat'd and remaped there. Amazing results and friendly service .
They've also done my cambelt kit, water pump and mot.

  4. Evening chaps,

I've just bought an R26 and live near Wimborne, so quite close to their garage.

I'll be looking for somewhere good locally for service/repair/belts etc. so am interested in the feedback about K-tec.

I've sort of picked-up some negative vibes about them on here and on the other site - so what's that all about?? Interested to hear if others have had a good experience, 'cos I'll be needing some work done soon and am seriously thinking about K-tec.

    Cheers,

    Dave

  5. I just wish they phoned me back as promised.

  6. Rather you than me

  7. I guess that's the kind of feedback I was meaning...

...what are the issues, as people seem to have them, but I can't find out what the problems are??

I'm not being funny with this question - I'd just like to know, so I can decide where to take my car for work.

    Cheers,

    Dave

  8. Its their customer service mainly and how they have sold some of their products to consumers. Problems have arisen and they have just swept them "under the rug". Me for one have had to shell out to fix these problems which Ktec don't seem to have an answer for.
Mainly the smf flywheel. An other badly designed, ill fitting, not fit for purpose products.
Also they're remaps produce a high torque figure which is known to be the main contributor to Renault engine failures.

Workshop seems to be highly rated. But would I buy or have tuning done there?
    Not a chance.

Some of the recent threads on CS about them have been scary.

  10. I initially was in the same boat, with little direct experience of their service and only the forum to go on, where plenty of people seemed to have 'a mate who's had a really bad experience' etc etc.

I booked the car in on a Saturday morning in October for 'looseness in the steering and seemingly excessive torque-steer and tracking the road.'

They got the car up in the air and after 20minutes came back in to say that both track-rod inners were worn and needed replacing. Now I had heard the stories about the rack so asked them to confirm it wasn't this, which they did.

They replaced the arms, tracked the car and fitted a modified airbox to the car, and then gave me a frankly ridiculous bill.

After a 'discussion' about the bill and why it was so much, I stumped up the cash and left. (for the record, I'd expected it not to be the cheapest, as they were a specialist).

On driving the car to work again for a few days, the problem was still not resolved, so I called Ktec up and told them. They said the would need to do some more investigative work, and would charge me at their hourly rate. They alluded to the problem maybe being a knackered damper, and when I insisted they check the steering rack also, their response was that "in their experience they haven't seen the steering rack fail before".

I asked for a provisional quote for supply and fit of the rack in any case, and was quoted something in the region of £700 (ballpark, I can't remember exactly now). I got in touch with Mark Black who was less than half the price, so rang Ktec up and spoke to Martin to cancel the booking with them. Whilst on the phone I said "Just so you're aware, I'm cancelling becuse I've had a price less than half of yours for supply and fit of an OEM rack including tracking, and I wanted to let you know as I'm concerned you may be pricing yourself out of the market."

Their response was "Our technician has only replaced one rack before; we've quoted it as a 4-hour job, but would charge you the time it takes."

So, to recap, a Renault Megane specialist, having only replaced one rack is going to charge me hourly rate to apparently muddle through a job their technician has only done once before?!?!! Thanks but no thanks!

I went up to Mark Blacks last weekend to get the rack done; he started work at 08:30, and had fitted the replacement rack completely by 10:00, and would have had it tracked and done had it not been for another car in bits on the alighnment ramp! His prices were so much more reasonable, it made sense for me to drive from south of Guildford all the way up to just south of Sheffield to get the work done with him, and I've received a far far better service as well.

I will be making the trip up to Mark's again early next year for my 6-year service and belts.

Some may not consider there to be much wrong with my experience, but personally, I would consider buying parts from Ktec, but I will never take my car there for work again. For a Renaultsport specialist, and for their hourly rate, I think their service left quite a lot to be desired.

  11. Glad I asked for your feedback - thanks!

  12. Had mine mapped well over 12 months ago by ktec and well impressed...not missed a beat....reckon if u constantly ragging it it's gonna damage a stock engine / turbo / clutch etc wherever u get remap tho.

  13. Have there been any reports of their high torque figure maps causing any engine failures ?

  14. Some of the threads on clio sport are bad.
cambelt mis timed cam packages fitted incorrect.
    Poor mapping.

  15. What were the output figures at ktec and what are they everywhere else?

  16. With map, sports cat and exhaust 294 bhp....torque 347 lbft

  17. Stage one is normally limited to 300 ibft by most places, dont know what ktec set theres too.

  18. I personally wouldnt take mine there. Id much prefer to go see Fred at BTM. They are amazing!
