Just bought an 05 Trophy

  1. Bought my first megane yesterday a trophy from Mansfield no 178.
I love it already. Not as quick as I imagined it to be so may look into improving that
Couple of things I need to sort are the fog lights don't work. Do they have their own fuse? If not are the bulbs easy to change?
Side lights are very dim too are they easy to replace?
Got an annoying buzz on the dash that never stops I thought it was the fan but it's still there when fan off. Any ideas naybe a common thing?
Oh and the indicators don't click off automatically ? How can that be fixed?

Was surprised only £45 to fill what fuel to people use?

  2. A remap will sort the power out!
Not sure if the fogs have a fuse but to change bulbs it's a wheel and wheel arch liner of job! The side lights can be done through the wheel arch by removing the cover on the liner but it's prob easier to take the full liner off.
What side of the dash does the buzz come from? If it's rather side next to the windscreen try wedging a small piece of rubber/carpet between the dash and screen! I had the same on mine and that sorted it out
As for the indicators I think you may need a new stork cost around £85 for a new one, not sure about fitting though.
Fuel is V-power all the way for most people!

  3. Cheers Minchy

I'm thinking about a remap. I spent less than I budgeted anyway. The stork thing I will probably live with for the sake of at least £85. I assume a piece of plastic has worn internally .
I'll try that with the buzzing. I've not had a proper look and play with it yet and the roads are full of snow now which is a pain. It's a lovely solid straight car though I'm made up with it and so much better than that dog I saw in Liverpool I told you about
What pain about the lights, why can't it just be easy!!

  4. Yeah it's a mega pain to change the lights but if you get some decent bulbs they shouldn't need replacing.
I'd go to RS tuning for the map if you can, they have a good rep for the Renaultsport. If you want a bit more then get a car back exhaust and intercooler before the map! Might be worth changing the spark plugs if they've not been change!

  5. is that what you did to your one? Did it make a big difference? how much did it cost you?

  6. Mine had the cat back already on when I bought it, I just done the airbox mod, changed the injectors and spark plugs! You can adjust the actuator on these too so you get more boost!
I'd say withe the cooler, cat back, airbox mod, sparks and a map it should reach 275+
Mine was 268 with the without the cooler and the actuator!

  7. that would be the same as my old nissan 200sxs by sound of it you used to buy a boost valve and adjust that to increase boost with a boost gauge

  8. Not to sure I've not had any dealings with a boost gauge, I just know you can adjust the rod on the actuator!

  9. Fit a 250 turbo.
Made mine feel like a new car compared to the standard one.
Cant wait to get it mapped now.

  10. A re-map will definitely make a difference, I bought my 225 Trophy already re-mapped and it feels a lot quicker and more aggressive than my standard 225. It was re-mapped by the previous owner, a friend of mine and has run on this map (RS Tuning) for at least 5 years.

With the buzz, is it like a bit of a hum through the cabin? Reason I ask is that when Ed (LiquidF1) had my car in for a detail, he pointed out the vibration in the cabin. I just assumed that it was a 2005 French car with 45k on the clock, it was bound to rattle a bit but actually turns out it was the main engine mount that was shot. Allowing the engine to push down on the bottom of the mount and transmitting the movement of the engine through the cabin, made a huge difference having that replaced. Maybe something to consider.

I'm surprised yours only cost £45 to fill, mine seems to take £40 for a bit over half a tank haha.

You enjoying the car though OP?

  11. Hi mate
yeah I'm loving the car, its nice to drive something quick again after 4 years of watching pennies post divorce!!

I made a mistake it was £54 to fill up. Done that twice since Saturday!!

Just got a snag list of jobs I want to sort. The buzzing which is that cabin air con sensor, the fog lights which I assume I#ll need to sort for MOT anyway.

I found two new cubby holes today in the footwells of driver and passenger. I was already shocked to find the two in doors!!!

  12. Sounds good and sounds like you're using it to it's full potential. They are quick cars and surprise a few people which is part of the appeal, plus I think they have bags of character which I'm sorry to say that the next generation of Megane missed out on.

One of the nicest features in the Megane in general is the number of cubby holes in it. Compared to the same era Ford Focus, there's loads of storage and comforts in the cabin.

  13. how do you adjust the actuator Minchy?

  14. Less thread on the rod more pre load.

Be careful not to over do it.

  15. I've managed to do a couple of things to the car since I had it
Changed the sparks to the ones from Adam at Renault
Fitted a Forge dump valve and whilst fitting snapped a sensor that went in to throttle body. Replaced that with a new part from renault and the car seems sharper since changed that so maybe it was already damaged and leaking a bit
I fixed the window washers that werent working due to a leaking t piece in hosing and fixed a horrible rattle in the boot lock so now more quiet.
Ive bought red caliper paint to do the calipers and also the leds for the rear number plate

  16. the air box mod has been done too so noisier but I plan to do the itg induction cone also

  17. Cars in the garage now getting the injectors cleaned fingers crossed that will make a difference to the way it runs and the fuel economy which is dire.

Mechanic put the computer on it and came up with air con sensor fault. Hes just checked it and its all rusty with bare wire showing so hes going to see if he can sort that without replacing.

Hes sorted fog lights they were just a loose conection but discovered nearside front track rod and track rod end are shot and the off side track rods shot too. MOTs end of month so will sort that.

He also commented that the nearside rear brake squeaks and is binding with rusted discs so hes going to give tem a clean

He also mentioned but I don't know what impact it will have but offside cv boot is split and the nearside front one is weeping.

He also said on the ramp the rear springs which are eiback look bent but he needs to check it under load to see if its just a red herring.

    Fingers crossed not too expensive

  18. Got the car back injextors have been cleaned and car definately picks up better acceleration wise. Just had a 10 mile drive and got 27.1 mpg which is better than the 19.5 it was averaging when dropped off. Got fog lights fixed too
Bits he has identified are track rods and track rod ends, a leaking rack boot, a ball joint or bottom arm and 2 drop links. MOTs next month so needs work doing
