hello all tonight i had 3 drunken lads jump into my car to cause malignant damage and try to steal the keys and rough me up. now they kicked and punched the bodywork and glass, scratched the seats and to try and damage the interior. from what i can tell the only thing that has broken is the stalk buttons and housing. this was spun around 180 degrees so was technically upside down. the rear jet wash does not work neither does the rear fog anymore and the buttons dont turn like they used to. also using the indicators causes the housing to move. as can be seen from this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTuEdoK9qNE i dont think anything else is damaged but its dark and cannot tell immediately. my question is if anybody can help is this likely to just be loose connections, broken loom in the stalk housing, or am i going to need the entire new stalks ect? thanks.
That's horrific. Sorry no idea about the stalks, but Jesus, what is wrong with people. Hope its an easy fix. This is why I have the doors on auto lock.
You should really engage the auto-lock. I think you need to have the ignition on (but the engine off) and just hold the door lock button for 5-10 secs. Also, I am pretty sure that just driving through them slowly to get away could be considered self-defence if you are in danger. I wouldn't think twice about knocking the feckers out the way, but then thats probably just me :/
That is a shitter mate, some scumbags want putting down. Did you know the guys/ are the police on the case? I always use auto lock, but even if I'm going to be sat still for a moment I will manually lock it myself anyway, you can never be too careful. Hope you get everything sorted
i was parked up. my auto lock works but i was sat in the car without the engine running and i hadn't driven it so it wasn't engaged. im ok just alittle shaken. got the headache of trying to fix the car now unfortunately.
The fact they went for the stalks suggests they were looking for the keys (not knowing the Megane either has the keycard in the console or keyless in your pocket, which is where mine stay). Clearly wasn't a well organised attack or they would have researched the car first. At least that suggests you're not a specific target so they probably won't be trying again
Fuck that. I would have literally shit myself ha good job its only small damage and not you hurt and the car nicked! Sounds like it could have been alot worse.
Are The stalks replaceable without changing the whole squib and taking the wheel off? Hoping it's just the stalks that have broke and not the loom inside.
are you sure Daz? I was under the impression you had to change the whole assembly and take the wheel off to do so?
I think in gunna take the whole thing off and have alook. From viewing a vid on you tube it looks pretty easy. Need to make sure the connectors and loom are not damaged.
They do unscrew and are easy to change. If you need both stalks ive got some spare you can have for free, just cover the post.
I just taken it all apart and a connector block had come loose. But I've still got no rear wash or rear fog. Stalks must be broken. So I will take them from you James. On the plus side the only other damage I can see is a snapped Ariel and a slightly damaged passenger recaro.
The stalks can deffo be unscrewed and swapped. Infact if it helps you out I can send you a pair of working stalks, they were only swapped out because I changed the entire squib.
From looking you can change them without hassle. I've just pm'd James for his Daz. All being well 2 new stalks will cure it. Thanks though mate.
hey mate, sorry to hear about this... maybe its the regular chavs in doncaster... once a gypsie pulled up against me and told me he wanted my car... i politely told him to fuck off... with me as im sure your same my car is pretty important and i would have probably ripped my handbreak off to batter the fuckers with... do u think ud recognise these drunken assholes again if you saw them?
Maybe. I don't know has it seemed to happen very quickly I was more concerned about looking after my property than getting a good look at who they were.
I just seen this. Hope you got everything fixed. A similar thing happened to me a couple of days ago. I was walking to my car with a take away and saw 2 guys hanging round it, I asked them what was wrong thinking they had bumped the car or something. One guy told me to give him my keys, I told him to go fuck himself but that made him and his mate come at me, I was lucky that I managed to put one on the floor and the other over the bonnet of the car in front of mine. I'm really glad I studied aikido and karate for quite a long time, even though I haven't trained for about 4years it just came back to me when I needed it. It's true what they say it's just like riding a bike. Or more likely I'm just really lucky, thinking about it it could of gone a lot worse. I did drop my take away though lol but at least my R26 wasn't damaged.
