Had my Megane 250 just over a couple of weeks now and thought it would be time to start a thread for it! Bought it off a lad on this very forum, travelled all the way down London to get it and drove it back Previous car was a Clio 182, which I bought completely standard which ended up being heavily modified and turned basically into a road going track spec - Spax Coilovers, PMS Solid Top Mounts and Braces, VibraTechnic Engine Mounts, Black Polybushed, Whiteline Rear ARB, Recaros, AD08R's, Partly stripped, etc. Absolutely loved the car, and it handled amazingly - unfortunately using it as a daily with almost 20,000 miles each year it wasn't really that suitable anymore! Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr DSC_6229 by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr So the plan with the Megane is some slight modifications, but don't take it anywhere near as far as the Clio and keep it as a capable daily! Anyway onto the car - It's an Oyster Grey 250 Cup, with a wicked factory spec and most optional extras - Recaros, RS Monitor, Bi-Xenons, Climate Control, Keyless, Auto Lights/Wipers, DRL's and no doubt some other stuff I've missed! It's pretty much standard bar a Panel Filter, Midbox Chop and an all important RS Tuning Map! Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Compared to the Clio it's honestly like luxury. Reading reviews people said the Cup Chassis was stiff, but in comparison to my Clio this is like a Rolls Royce I kid you not! I do miss the 'rawness' of the Clio at times, and the Megane does seem a little less connected I guess you could say, but overall I think it could be the perfect compromise of a daily toy for me! It's scary how quiet and effortless it seems compared to the Clio, don't get me wrong it puts you back in the seat but it's not until you look at the speedo you see how fast your actually going! After 2 weeks I am missing the Clio, will happily admit that, but I have a feeling with a couple of tweaks and a bit more time with the Megane, it will be the right decision!
Did what I think everyone does as a first job...Remove the Megane badge! Also got my plates on - Went slightly smaller on the front as I ran one on the Clio and just prefer it slightly! Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Next was another favourite - The Rhino Lip Spoiler Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr And my favourite picture to date (You'll soon realise I like taking photos lol) Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr
I then spent an evening and the whole next day detailing it, wanted to get on top of it as soon as I got it as it makes it so much easier there after, especially with Winter coming up! Washed and Dried first, followed by a full Clay to decontaminate the paint work. This left me a nice smooth finish to work on some minor paint corrections with my DA and Menzerna polishes. Finally it was deciding what to protect it with, and after reading various reviews online I went with Carlack 68 NCS and LLS which initial impressions seem very good, added an extra layer of Collinite 476 Wax for a bit more protection and peace of mind, which I can top up as we go over winter. Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Paint does have a bit of orange peel, but speaking and looking at other Oyster Greys it seems this is the norm, bit of a shame but I can live with it. I may look into doing some wet sanding to improve it, but for the time being I am happy enough with it. Some outside shots, unfortunately as it was on the edge of dark it doesn't look that impressive; Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr
And this post takes us up to today...and it's been a good couple of days - I've now got the following ready to fit Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr So that's a new CGR Decat, new H&R Springs, Airtec Intercooler and some 18's wrapped in Nankang NS2R's Plan is simple - get them fitted, take it up to Paul to get the map adjusted to suit - enjoy the car! Still a few more things to do it - Upgrade the speakers and fit an amp, fancy a sun strip, and will look at a couple of other mods no doubt, but once I get these parts fitted I think that will keep me happy for a few months...I hope lol
Stunning looking Meg, but I must agree the Clio looks equally as good. Nice shed you've got to play in too [emoji1303][emoji1303][emoji1303]
Thanks all for the kind words! I'd love to keep the Clio I really would, so much time, effort and money put into it! In all honesty Gavin I've had it sat in the garage for a few months so don't have the exact link, but it's the same as this one here : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142130715170 I think all the Rhino Lip spoilers are the same in all honesty, I most confess mine has come off the one edge slightly since fitting it as I only used the adhesive, but I'm going to purchase another and use a couple of screw towards the edges
Cheers man! Yeah the glue alone is supposedly not strong enough and comes away, need some self tappers. I'll get it bought.
I best get some extra ones then! Cheers Aaron, I must confess I wanted a white one at first, but decided to go Grey and I think I'm glad I did - both stunning colours in them though! Tried my 18" Cup wheels tonight but not too sure I like them Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Can't decide if its the actual wheel I don't like or the colour...I don't think the massive arch gap helps either lol! Think it's mainly the wheel style in all honesty, so think I'm going to sell these and keep an eye out for another style wheel What do we think?
I have the cup wheels, i would not say i hate them, but i did go and get a set of Tibors, because i prefer them
I think wheels are the only thing that lets the 250-275 down. The OEM ones don't do much for me. The Steevs on mine make me sad every time I look at it lol
Lots to update, so I'll try and remember most of it Bought myself a Forge Recirculation Valve and KTR Induction Kit : Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Wasn't sure on the noise at first but I've grown to like it over time! Recirc Valve was a pain to fit, but managed it after lots of fiddle. Also sprayed up my Airtec Intercooler and got that fitted : Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr
Had my Steevs Refurbed in a Dark Anthracite as wasn't keen on the diamond cut finish : Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Finally got around to fitting my H&R Springs : Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Fitted Rear Black Badge and Exhaust Surround : Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr
Went for a blast up Elan Valley, very lucky that it's only an hour away from me : Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Then decided the offset on the Steevs really didn't fill the arches now it's been lowered, so was on the lookout for a new wheel. Managed to stumble on these Speedline Turinis on eBay and thought they'd be ideal! Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Turinis are 18x8, ET35. Currently fitted with 215/40's on the rear and 215/35's on the front which is a bit odd but I'll use the rubber up and get some Michelin PS4's on there soon in 225/40 which will look a lot better. Arch gap looks terrible in the last photo due to the road leaning away terrible, on flat ground it really isn't that bad. And this pretty much takes us up to today, in a very quick update! I love the car and it's slowly getting to how I want it! Still got to fit my CGR Decat and get my mapped change to suit my current mods since fitting them, looking to go slightly lower so looking into Bilstein B14's and Camber mounts, but I'm in no desperate rush at the moment. That's just about my major plans, no doubt a couple of small tweaks here and there as I love to tinker.
Looks well that, love the new wheels. Was interested in how the Ktec kit fitted, nice to see a picture without the battery. How did it ride on the Steevs with the H&Rs? Mine seems quite stiff on standard suspension so a bit worried about lowering it!
Car looks absolutely mint. I think I prefer the Steevs, they look reeeeeeally good in that dark anthracite, really suit the car [emoji1303][emoji1303][emoji1303]
Cheers mate, it's getting there slowly! In all honesty, I don't think it's any more uncomfortable than the stock Cup Suspension - perhaps on the off big bump/pothole but day to day driving it seems pretty much exactly the same. Looks much much better though! You know what Jonny, for the last couple of days I've been thinking I'm not 100% sure on the Turinis, it's just the offset is far better and fills the arches better, the 18" tyres are so much cheaper than 19" You can see the offset there is much better, I'm going to give the car a good clean tomorrow on my day off and get a few photos and then see what I think of them properly...if I don't like them I'll go back to the Steev's and get some 20mm spacers
Thanks, that's interesting to know. I drive on quite a lot of quite bumpy B roads and the car is already quite harsh to be honest. Wouldn't really want to make it any stiffer. My eventual thought would be to drop to 18s, so gaining back some sidewall might even it out overall. I must say, I think it looks brilliant on the Turinis, I wouldn't change them. Unless you want to give the Turinis to me that is, then you should definitely put the Steevs back on
Truly stunning. This car was the reason for me wanting a grey Megane RS. Just awaiting the sale of my current car and then im on the hunt. How do you find the ride on the H&Rs Chris
Thanks for the kind words all! Bought and fitted some Genuine Spark Plugs as I started to get a very slight misfire at high revs. Gapped them to 0.6mm as that is what I was recommend to do for a remapped 250. Untitled by Jimbob_2705, on Flickr Besides from that it's just been driven, gotten filthy then got cleaned, quite regularly with the country roads I live on.
