Is a rs250 worth the extra money over a r26

  1. im looking at buying a weekend toy and I've looked at a few r26 but I still can't get my head around prices are they worth 3k or 6k who knows. But it occurred to me that rs250 seemed to be dropping under 10k now, what do people think about which one is best for fun and track Days?

  2. I just like the shape of the R26. An R26 with money spent on a remap (260+BHP), tyres etc. would be very capable and fun. Price wise, R26 and other cars depend on condition/mods. If I sold mine it would have cam belt, clutch, window regs, etc. all done so not really anything that would need doing, and I'd be looking at nearer £6k than £3k. Very happy with my R26 though. I'd go R26 + mods over a standard 250, though I'd probably be happy with either.

  3. Having had both I'd say if it's a toy/track car I'd go r26 keeping money for matinence and a few mods
If it's going to be used frequently Defo go for the 250. Mine has full optional spec, so it's well equipped and 'feels' worlds apart a better product than the r26 from that point of view

  4. I've read that people have said that the 250 chassis is miles better then the mk2 but I've never driven one but can say so far my experience of mk3 ownership has been nothing short of fantastic

Having had access to both for a while I didn't personally feel it was worth the big £££ it would cost to swap to one.

When prices come down I'd be more interested.

  6. Owning both, I think they're very different cars.

the mk3 is certainly a better car, but as a base for a track car I'd rather have an R26 and cash to spend on upgrades (coilovers, FMIC, exhaust remap, tyres etc)

for me the main differences with the 250 / R26:
    - 250's back end pops out round corners a lot easier, it's very agile. That being said, the R26 feels very planted, I never once felt uncomfortable driving it.
    - the 250 has more mid range torque. the R26's power comes higher up the rev range.
    - the cabin is a lot nicer (which for a track car is probably the least prominent point)

I'd expect a sub £10k 250 to be a little ropey to be honest, and most likley without cup pack / recaros

  7. I have a 250 and the car is fantastic to drive. But in your case I'd go the R26 and keep the extra cash for mods and maintenance.

Makes sense for a track car?

  8. I'd happily go back to a Mk2. I think if the recaros where mounted around 2-3 inches lower as standard the car would feel miles better. handling wise I feel that was the biggest noticeable difference. you sit in a much lower better position in the 250.

250 has more body roll and rear end is more twitchy as mentioned before. the r26 I felt was easier to drive hard I had more trust in it.

For me the interior of my 265 is a big let down. obviously it's a more modern design but it's much smaller being a coupe. much less room in the back I could get miles more stuff in the r26 and dci. much more storage upfront aswell. personaly I'd rather use a Mk2 as a day to day Car and a the 250 as a weekend car.

Owning both at the same time I certainly wouldn't say the mk3 is a huge step up that warrants double the price. id take a neat r26 over a cheaper 250
