Last time I checked, no one on the Meggy forums was subscribed to the iRacing sim - but for any of you out there with a PC and a wheel/pedal set I highly recommend it (when you can't get out in your real car of course). The graphics aren't up there with the latest console offerings but the physics/realism are in a different league altogether. All races are scheduled online and eligibility for different race series is based on your safety rating (ability to stay on the black stuff and avoid accidents) as well as speed, so clean racing is encouraged. Post here if you're signed up and we can get some races organised.
Def worth a look if you're prepared to dedicate some time and money to get the most out of it. It's a subscription service plus you pay for content (cars and tracks), though the basic package gives you what you need for the rookie series. You really want a wheel with a pedal set, ideally with a clutch and an H-pattern gear shifter. Anyone approaching it as a game will get frustrated - you can't just jump straight in and be winning races. There's no "restart race" option - Rookie races last about 20 mins so, if you crash, it's back to the pits and a lengthy wait for repairs before rejoining at the back of the pack! Quit the race early and your licence rating will suffer. You need to put some time in to learn the car behaviour and the tracks and, initially, you're only eligible to race in the MX5 series (or a rookie oval racing series if that's your bag). You can practice solo with any car/track combo that you own. If you approach it as you would a real racing career, only online, you get more from it and the difficulty/realism makes it very rewarding when you start getting clean races, good results and promotions. You can set up private leagues with scheduled races using any cars/tracks and I've noticed that quite a few car clubs have their own leagues.
Have any of you Ladies & Gents seen the light and subscribed to iRacing yet? It's lonely in my man cave with no virtual friends to play with. Boo hoo.
AC does look good (definitely more eye candy than iRacing) , but right now it doesn't support SimVibe software I use that with iRacing, hooked up to a set of bass transducers under the seat and pedals to give incredible feedback - you can feel exactly what each wheel is doing, clunks as you change gear etc. Having got used to that, I don't think I could go back to just feeling feedback through the wheel.
I took the liberty of slapping some RSMegane.com logos on my iRacing Ruf RT12-R for this years virtual Carrera Cup Hope you approve!
