Intermittent rattle from engine bay on idle.

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Corey, Oct 23, 2013.

  1. Just noticed over the last few days a metalic rattle noise from the rear of the engine bay on idle. Had a quick look and can't see anything obvious. I'm planning on doing all the mounts next month as there still original so are due a refresh. Could duff mounts or a failed flexi section on my milltek be the cause?

I won't be able to get a proper look until the weekend but just trying to think of any other potential causes.

    Cheers

  2. Heat shield?

  3. Was thinking that this morning glen, I'll have to get my hands dirty and take a look.

  4. Could be many things with these cars lol I'm sure once all the mounts are changed it will probably disappear. Might be that your engine has dropped slightly.

  5. Thanks for the link, thankfully once I got the car on the ramp and had a nose around we found the cause. The Heat shield that covers the cat has a small split in it and when the engine/ cat is cold there is a slight rattle as it knocks. Once the engine and cat warm up it goes away. Once the sports cat goes on I'll fit a new heat shield.

  6. Im glad it wasn't the same issue as I had
