Insurance HELP!

  1. Hi all,

Renewal time for insuring the 250 and I've an issue..

My renewal is due at the end of this month, however as of mid March I'd have clocked up another year on my license, which with another year added, will take my premium down by about a hundred quid!

The problem I've got is that I do not want to go ahead and pay a years worth of insurance, when I could wait 2 and a half weeks and save a ton..

I've done a few temporary car insurance quotes to see if I could tide myself over with a policy for a couple of weeks in between, but at £200 they can get to F.

I spoke to my insurer earlier and explained this and they said it is just unfortunate and I'll have to bite the bullet.

If I were to go to a completely new insurer, would I have to specify my license date, to the exact day? If I just said March 2008, would I get away with it? I'd feel like I've been bent over a barrel paying an extra £100 for the sake of 18 days otherwise!

    cheers

  2. Ive never had to give an exact date on my licence.

  3. I've worked it out to be 18 days from renewal, to having another year added to my license. Do you think given how long that is, I could get away with it??

  4. Is it not possible to keep your car off the road for two weeks then if its not used as a daily then come the time you have that extra year on your license then take out a new policy starting from the date you received your license

  5. Yes mate, I can do that as I'll have a company car. Only issue being that the car has to be legally insured, even if it's off the road doesn't it?

    No you can sorn it

  7. I thought laws had changed which still required any vehicle to still be insured even if SORN?

SORN covers no insurance and tax as long as kept on private land as far as I know, go on dvla website for more info.

Just checked and you can SORN it for insurance and tax

  10. Might try that then. Other thought was that I could renew it and then cancel in the calling off period, however I've got 18 days and the calling off is 14.

  11. There may still be an admin fee for cancelling it which will eat into your £100 saving.

  12. Did think that. I will probably just go down the SORN route, as I've another car to use, albeit not as much fun to drive

Don't mean to offend but it seem strange to go to such lengths over car insurance given the type of car being insured. Maybe a cheaper car to insure? Even on private land risky having an uninsured 250 even for only 18 days, of course this is only my opinion.

  14. I agree, having it uninsured is risky business. I just begrudge paying £100 I don't have too.

  15. just have a policy for say a month, cancel it and get a refund for the 11m dependant on what the cancellation fee is, then take out the new policy

worth doing as you will have the same problem year on year so do it now and then its solved for all future renewals

Agree with this. Best solution long term and keeps car insured.
