Indicator Working Intermittently

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by Justinb42, Nov 15, 2013.

  1. The drivers side front indicator on my R26 stopped working then did and has now stopped. Anyone any ideas? New bulb? Relay knackered?

  2. I had the same thing on my 225, it was the front passenger on mine giving me grief.

I just took it apart and gave the contacts a good clean and it's been fine for nearly a year since!

I had to take the headlight out completely to do so because it's a bastard to get to.

    Hope this helps mate,

    Mark

  3. Is it fairly easy to do? Being mechanically inept that I am!

Or is Haynes Manual able to help out? Failing that a more mechanically ept (not sure if that even a word but if you can be inept at something surely you can be ept at it?) mate?

  4. I'd say it's more fiddly then difficult mate,

If you can get the front bumper off it should make life a lot easier too, then it's literally a case of giving the contacts a wipe and hey presto!

Trust me, if I can do it a monkey could

  5. Will have to have a go then, perhaps with the assistance of a mate. Ha. As I'll probably drop the bumper or something.

Then hopefully get back on square and straight.

Common. Contacts on back of bulb housing need fiddling with, they come loose or undone over time, bumper off n headlight undone reconnect and should be fine.

Or get a new bulb holder like i just have, 7701065724 less than £15.

you can do it through the arch linings mate, just give it a good twist both ways and see if it's made the contact any better.

  9. Sorted. Being idle that I am I took to garage and £30, which I thought was bargain as meant I didn't have to go out in rain. Lol

  10. mine was the opposite it stayed on!! took the collem to bit its been fine since

  11. Mines just started doing this I think. Jesus these cars are shit - what a terrible design.

I think you'll find most cars have bulbs and bulb holders...

  13. It's the fun thing about owning any car, faults happen. Just different faults with different cars. I really should learn how to repair them. LOL

Sorry for the revival but this seemed as good a punt as any.

My front indicator has failed, (N/S) and I'm wondering if it's just a dodgy connection more than the bulb.

Can I get access through the arch liner to wiggle things around with the car on the ground, or does it need jacked up?

  15. Depends on how small your hands are mate, I personally find it easier to take the bumper off as I've got it down to about 5 mins removal time now! The chances are it just needs a clean up though matey

    Hmm, I'm not exactly small.

I don't have any tools here so was really hoping it wasn't a bumper off scenario. Plus my headlight fixings are a bit dodgy so the bumper is a bit precarious in fitting!

  17. Have a go at getting it through the wheel arch then mate, you might have a bit of luck....

I can just about manage to change a headlight/ sidelight through it but thought the indicator was trickier to get at!
