I'm looking to get a camera set up for trackdays and looking at the obvious go-pro motorsport. What setups are you running and are there any other ones like the new tomtom worth considering? Ta
Mobius Action camera, 1080p and just as good quality as the GoPro HD hero 2 I have ( that I no longer use because of it). For what you'd pay for one GoPro you could set up two of these one front and back with hard wiring into the power and still have money to spare.
I got a 'Xiaomi Yi' action camera - I've done a thread about how to buy it direct from china for very little - the camera itself is around £44, £55 or so from amazon, and then you'll need a battery (I have 2, as they only do about 2 hours recording each),a lense cover, waterproof housing (I won't use it, but it you want it externally mounted...), and the car suction cap. - here's the detailed thread where I explain how to get it: http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread.php?7423-Knock-off-GoPro-Xiaomi-Yi-Action-Camera The only other thing left is a 64Gb micro SD card for £20 from amazon - thats about 14 or 16 hours of 1080p 60FPS film - loads of storage. Considering how cheap it is, I think the results are fantastic.... Especially good at dealing with low / changeable light conditions. Sounds not the best - but you can't have everything... Have a look and see what you think.... (Youtube degrades the quality a lot, the actual recordings viewed on a laptop are a cut above what YT hosts) Low Light and getting late: Dull and overcatse: Full Brightness and Low sun: I'm even tempted to get a 2nd for the rear view. Nice and easy to use, sand-alone, or with a smartphone to have the live video relay etc etc.
I just use an Iphone 6 with Harry's Lap Timer App.
This is what the Mobius footage looks like, obviously YouTube wrecks the quality of video a bit:
Depends on budget, you can get systems the are into the thousands! I use a 2 cam system from goldstar http://www.goldstaronboard.com/brand/goldstar/goldstar-2-camera-hd-gps-dvr-motor-sport-kit.html
Do any of these cheap cams have a 3.5mm mic input so you can run a external mic to the boot or even over the tailpipe? Gopro 3 seems to be the cheapest that I can find that will allow this if not.
Go pro just because it's so damn easy i had a race technology 2 camera kit with data in a previous car and it was a nightmare and the files were enormous
