So, if you had to part with your megane RS for any reason (yes and I am considering selling my mk2). You are given a budget of 30k. The car had to be daily driveable yet remain as fun and as good a driving instrument as any RS Megane is. What would be your car of choice? Bare in mind I daily a fast road focused megane with very hard fully polybushed and coilover'd megane everyday, so harsh ride isn't too much of an issue. What i want is comfort in terms of interior quality and a few gadgets BUT most importantly is that grin inducing aching smile that pushing on in the megane gives you almost every time (as long as its not breaking down). Plus you want something that makes you look back at it in the car park as you walk away. Interested to hear what other megane owners would choose, see if there is a common choice.
hahah I have an e93 m3 as my current daily. I'm thinking of parting with both. I am a big fan of the m3. The issue with the car is that as its a daily, despite the theatre and gorgeous sound of the s65 v8. The car feels like any other 3 series. You really have to beat on it to get anywhere near as much fun because of where the power is, all up top. It's a wonderful car no disagreement. But in order to feel fast you are already well above the national limit and I'm not a massive track driver. My cars really are for fast road driving. If i could combine the noise and theatre of the M3 and the pinpoint accuracy and useability of the megane, win.
I think the biggest point in your question is - "as fun and as good a driving instrument as any RS Megane is" Having had a few various cars now, I've always seemed to find myself back in an RS product or at least thinking about getting another. I had a Clio R27 for about 6 years, then a Megane 275 and most recently an R26 (now sold) having had a few other marques in between. If I were in your position I'd start with the following: Find a high spec 275 Cup-S, with Recaro's, Akrapovic, Nav Screen, Flame Red or Liquid Yellow (If you like bright colours) as a minimum and drive it - In terms of a more modern car that will still drive fantastically, make you want to look back and have passengers holding on the their seat when you're throwing it around corners on a twisty road, it definitely would be a great pick (and save you a big chunk of money/maybe let you keep the MK2 ) Next would be driving a 300 Trophy (I haven't driven one so this is just an assumption) It will again be even more modern than the 275, have fantastic pedigree being an RS product and they seem to get excellent reviews... but is it worth another £10K+ on top of a 275, I'm not sure My wild card would be an FK8 Type-R (and probably what I would buy for a change), get a great one within your budget, they gets lots of high praise and although some people say they look like they've been through a Halfords bodykit catalogue, I think they look so good on the road! Obviously there's many many other options, I currently have a Cupra 290 Lux as that suits my current driving needs perfect, but wanting something like the Mk2, with an amazing driving experience, I'd look at what you know
FK8 a good shout. Considered one but this market is mad. Depreciation not bringing cars to attainable prices, New Type R will hold up FK8 values independently of market madness. M2 Comp prob on my list if depreciation starts working again but cheapest is around £35k so above the £30k limit.
