Hi, Iv had a search but cannot seem to find a solid answer to the question/problem which I have. My front drivers side has the problem where the bearing fails and as a result the nut/bolt works itself loose. The picture below shows the problem which Im talking about... Ideally I want to fix the problem myself as appose to getting a garage to do it. So am I right in saying I have two options... 1. Source the correct bearing and replace it myself. (As long as the failed bearing hasn't done any permanent damage the the hub.) How can I tell if it has??? 2. Source a 2nd hand hub and fit that instead. Please could someone point me in the right direction with this. I don't want to buy the bearing to then find my hub is knackered. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, David
buy a new hub from ads for 198 quid which is the hub bearings already pressed into the carrier. this should fix your problem mate
Yeah, one bearing per side. There is actually two bearings in the hub but one of them is sealed and does not need replacing. It's due to the poor design and ingress of water that causes the bearing to dry out and seize. I done mine nearly a year ago and they are still going well.
like joe says its just the bearing that needs replacing, but depending on the age and condition of the carrier when pressing in the new one it may damage the carrier. but if its in decent nick it should be fine
