250 How long to swap a gearbox?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by NathanF, Dec 9, 2015.

  1. For anyone that's done this, how long is it likely to take to swap my FF gearbox for a Cup one with LSD?

My local garage (who I trust completely and know most performance cars but have never done a box swap on a 250) say they have spoken to Renault and their gearbox specialists and reckon 10hrs!! Apparently the front sub-frame has to come down and part of the rear sub-frame for some unknown reason.

So, can anyone think why they may have been told this? Surely as it's a complete box, the drive shafts go straight in an nothing else needs modifying?

I've also had another local Renault specialist refuse to quote :worried:

    Nath.

  2. This can be done in roughly 5-6 hours with 2 persons. And yes, the sub-frame at the front has to come off, otherwise you can't lower the box out of the car

Renault has fixed amounts of hours to work on these things, I think changing a clutch is put into Dialogys (the computer system Renault uses) at around 13-15 hours or so. I changed the clutch on my 250 with a friend in under 7 hours.
