Hello. I am into buying my first Megane RS and I am looking on a 2012 with 100.000 miles on the reading. Is that a lot on a car like this or will the engine last many miles more? Anyone that has experience with high mileage Megane III RS? Br Mike
Hi Mike I tracked my 265 loads, the engine was as it left the factory, it still had the cat fitted, not mapped, i fitted a half cage, buckets, 5 point harnesses etc etc etc, must have done 15 + trackdays like that, i bought it with 90k miles on the clock, i did forge it at 115k miles, upon stripping the engine it was immaculate inside. But then standard engines have gone bang with less mileage, it's a bit of a lottery, but i wouldn't worry too much with that mileage as long as the price is right.
I would look at other things then just mileage - service history - number of previous owners ( and type of owner?) - city or country miles - pre-inspection check I purchased my RS250 2 years ago and it had 126k km on it. But it had - full service history - one previous owner (doctor) - pre-inspection check found only a few minor issues Since then, it has primarily been a track day car - and really hasn't missed a beat apart from some minor issues. I put together the attached list - my checks to short list, before having a Renault indy mech have a good hard look up on a hoist. It may help (was done before I got up to speed on the RS, so pretty basic).
Thanks Zoto - quite a good and useful Prepurchase inspection list you have made. I will use it! Br Mike
Thanks for the info and advise Ian. On the one I am aiming for - the price is right and services and belts/water pump done. So I cross my fingers ;-) Br Mike
