Greetings! I'm a pensioner (young at heart!) running a 2010 250 Cup as a daily driver which I bought in 2011 having had a Clio 182 and Clio 197 F1 before the Megane, and a LONG time ago an Elan Sprint and a Healey 100/4. The Megane's done 56K, always properly maintained and I love it. I've noticed a slight increase in road noise, gearbox still works well, the whole car drives well. I took it in for service and when on the ramp the mechanic turned the front wheel by hand and it made a sort of clicking sound, like a bearing going, but the sound certainly came form the gearbox/diff area, and I've just been told by the dealer that a new diff/gearbox is needed - pretty upsetting. Any thoughts? As you guys may guess, I'm no mechanic! Just had a short test drive in the new 2018 Megane R.S. with manual gearbox, and it was superb.
Hi and welcome The guy that had my 265 before me was 84, he bought it in 2013 as an ex demo so he must have liked it to keep it that long. I think there is an inherent problem with some of the bearings in some of the mk3 gearbox's, best get someone to take the box out and then get a gearbox specialist to replace the bearings with some good quality ones, Renault do a gearbox exchange service (which to me says there is a problem) when i enquired for a MK2 it was around £1450, i managed to sort a discount that brought it down to £1200, then there was labour on top of that. Where about's are you located in the country ???
We stay in Elgin, some 40 miles east of Inverness on the Moray Firth coast - a beautiful part of the world, lots of whisky distilleries, but few specialist Renaultsport garages! - none of course, just the main dealer. I've been quoted £1476 for the gearbox/diff ex VAT, plus 13 hours labour, to bring it to about £3100. Any ideas about using Renparts in Doncaster advertising on ebay, who quote £1195 inc fitting for a reconditioned one? I think mine would get there - 420 miles, and they offer a 3 month guarantee, extended at extra cost.
Hi and welcome mate, Uncanny, I also had a 197 and 182 before the 250 Dinny ken if this helps but, SWR in Stirling are renaultsport specialists. Canny speak highly enough of Michael et co..
I'd speak to SWR or FGS in Stirling or Rentec if you are looking for a decent place to take it with Renaultsport experience
