  1. Morning all,
    Happy New Year.
I have been lurking for a while whilst I decide whether or not to become an rs owner or not, so thought I'd finally join as 99% sure I'm going to do so.

this is my current ride which I've had 2 years now [IMG]
and whilst I love it - we now have a 9 month old boy and apart for me driving to work/gym and back it no longer gets used - we end up going everywhere in my other halves Nissan Juke.

So it seems a waste to be in the garage every weekend and although I could keep it I'd rather have something that gets driven more - so I need a 4 seater.

With my other half on mat leave though I didn't really want to commit to an extra monthly payment so needed to get something that I can buy outright roughly for the price the 370z will sell. Hence an rs is one of the options I'm looking at (with Rs recaro said) the other was a gt86 but I think it'll feel too slow after the Nissan and worryingly I've never seen a man driving one!

anyway I'm off to renault Leicester today to look at an rs (for the first time so I'm hoping I like them as much as I do in the pics)
One question though - do all "cups" have it written on them or how can I tell if one is a "cup" edition or not?

    Thx

    Andy

  2. My cup has CUP on the B pillars. That's it, externally. Other than I know it's a cup.

Red calipers too I think. Although this doesn't guarantee it.

  3. Normally the cup cars have red callipers and grooved discs. If it's a cup it will also have it written inside the door. If it's a FF it doesn't say cup anywhere so callipers is easiest way to tell. Also as you're go to a Renault dealer they should be able to tell you.

Hope you aren't disappointed! Good luck!

  4. Thx that's what I thought but I've seen two for sale saying cup edition but with nothing in the b pillar as far as I can see so confused me.
    what do you mean FF?
    The two I saw..

  5. FF the the full fat version. Has all the mod cons, dual climate, leather etc.

Both of those are cup cars, if it is an FF with the optional cup pack it won't say cup on the pillar.

  6. Renault confusing model nomenclature:

    Release a new model

Release a cheaper 'Cup' version with less luxury items (seats/interior/ac), but better performance items (diff/brakes/suspension)

Release the better performance items as options on the standard models (cup packs). This model is then known as FF (full fat) if it has everything

Only the proper Cups should have the pillar badge.

Welcome along BTW - love the Zeeds.

  7. Nice Z, megane wont sound as nice but you will like the handling!

seem to remember fifth gear did a 350 or 370z vs 250 megane give that a watch

of the 2 above both have the (important) cup chassis, top one a 265 bottom one a 250. On the 265 you have a bit more power, improved interior and some uprated parts (like gearbox mount that was prone to fail on the 250)

if you want a cup chassis car then you have choice between a 265 cup ans 265 'full fat' with cup option.

Let us know how the test drives went

  8. I'm in Notts look out for an R

  9. Brayster, what's the Z like to drive /own, I've always liked them and was in the Nissan garage today looking at a Quasquoi(?) for my wife and they had the 370Z nismo there, great looking car and a good interior aswell ( unlike the Megane imo), I'm quite tempted although tax is pretty steep and mpg not great ( not a deal-breaker though). Performance seems pretty good, but what's it like for a daily? Also considering a lotus exige s2, I know they are very different beasts, that's my heart over my head,,,,,

  10. Hi Horti, frankly I love it - not much negative to say as it's easily the best car Ive owned .. Mines Not very well equipped as I have the base model but it's fast!
mpg not great I average 18mpg but only do 7 mile round trip per day. A little tail happy due the the power but I find it fun to drive on country roads near my house.

The one thing I do notice was the brakes they are akebono calipers all round and are amazing ... that is one thing that I was interested to know about the meganes Are the brakes ok? Why do they only have brembos on the front?
I noticed in this vid the heavier 370z closes up under braking a fair bit but apart from that he never really gets close!

The nismo z interior is incredible love the recaros it has... What about the nismo juke too small for you? It has a Renault engine I believe. (200 bhp Clio one I think)

Yes mattyw I know the sound won't be the same especially as I'd deleted the rear silencer and if honest sounded amazing but a touch too loud, especially with a baby in the house now.
Understood re the spec... Are the Red bull versions worth considering?

Nissan do a 4 seater version of the z with same engine badged under their Infiniti brand a g37 which was something else I was considering.

no viewings today the traffic was so bad trying to get to the Leics Renault dealers I drove past.

  11. You'll love the rs megane Brayster , it's a cracking car with good power (although plenty of people have remapped them), the convenience of four seats as you say and alot of fun when you're not being a Dad. I find the brakes fine, but a fair few people have again upgraded them, I've got the 250 cup and (except for the interior) it's smiles all the way, especially in the twisties (LSD helps here!,,,,,not the drugs) Forgot to say by the way, welcome to the forum.
