everytime i go for a long drive, the steering makes a very peculiar creaking noise as if something is chaffing on the steering column, you can feel the chaffing through the steering, now this is only happening when the car is hot, but it has also occured in the winter when i have turned the a/c on to clear the windows, i believe this is due to heat soak but why and where. Any help greatly appreciated.
Is there a seal or bush that may expand under heat? Help would be greatly appreciated, there is a video on youtube of the same noise on an r26 found under 'r26 sqeuaky steering'
I had a good look last night and to me, it looks as if the white plastic shroud that just pokes into the cabin around the column is fowling on it, when i looked underneath it seems that the sheoud isnt clicked down into place. I didnt get chance to click it in but i did rotate it, this changed the noise, so im hoping that clicking it back into place will resolve it
Best way to look is peel drivers carpet back where column exits the cabin, you will see the white bush surrounding the column, it wasnt sat central on mine , maybe the same on urs?
