R26 Help please Inside door handle won't work

  1. Hi all

my drivers side door inside door handle has been feeling weird all weekend when you open it to get out. Now it's has just decided to give up and now I can't get out unless I open the window and operate it from the outside. It still opens from the outside but when I double lock it I don't hear the second bolt on the drivers side to says its been secured.

took the card off and the cable hasn't snapped. Any one know what the problem is and how I can fix it? (feeling like I'm at the end of the road with this effing car atm).

    Thanks
    Si

  2. Has the cable come off at the lock end?

If it's not snapped it's got to be off at one end. There's no other way it wouldn't work since you say it can still be opened from outside and locked etc.

  3. The cables still attached from the inner handle end so maybe it's at the latch end of the door where the lock case is. Unfortunatley ive got no idea how to access this part...

  4. How do i get to the lock end ?

  5. If you unscrew the internal door handle and remove it from the door card I would imagine you will be able to pull it completely out of the door along with the cable if it isn't attached at the other end?
Or you could take the door card off and using small torch and small mirrors you might be able to see the lock end through some of the holes in the door skin

  6. You'll need to take the door card off. Don't think you'll get to it from the bit of the card that lifts up

  7. Took the card off and was able to inspect the wire behind the handle, i pulled in towards the front of the car and it retracts/ springs back when i let go but does not release the door. This must suggest that it is connected on the lock end.

Does this mean i have an issue with the lock case its self or lock solenoid?

  8. if the wire is working it sounds like part of the lock mechanism may have broken. can you see anything inside the door at the bottom that might have fallen off the mechanism. pins, nuts, bolts etc

  9. No nothing inside the door, I sprayed it full of oil and it worked for a bit but then the next day it was knackered again. Think it may be something inside the lock. Got a new lock anyway just need to find a way to fit it.
